TTT - Steve Winwood
Hello Hive Music Lovers!,
Welcome to another #threetunetuesday created originally by @ablaze.
This week I feature someone with an amazing talent and he has some tunes in my favourite era (The 80s). Not only can he sing with a great and unique sound, he can also play the guitar pretty well.
I think he didn't get the recognition he deserved, but well, maybe let me know what you think. Born in the UK, Steve has had a long music career in bands and a successful solo career too.
The first tune is a great feel good tune from the 80s and one of my favorite tracks by Steve.
Where are those same feel good songs from today? Do things not feel so good or was the frequency much higher back then?
This song has been remixed and rereleased and a more recent version I found was here by Kygo.
Like so many 80s tracks, there have been later many remixes made to rehash them or update them, but the original 80s tunes still stand the test of time.
Higher Love
The next tune is the smash hit Valerie which Steve sung earlier in the 80s and my first memories of this tune were through playing Grand Theft Auto where it was on one of the radio stations.
This is an iconic 80s track and Steve smashes it. So much so that there have also been a few remixes of it, noticeably, one of my favorites by Amy Whitehouse
She has a unique sound and the song is totally different to that sung by Steve. I saw that there was a version with Mark Ronson, but what he was doing in the song, I'm not quite sure.
The sample from the song by Steve was also used in the huge dance hit by Eric Prydz in 2004. It was quite well known for its unique workout video, more than the song I think.
Valerie
The final tune is another 80s classic by Steve this time which has Huey Lewis vibes to me. A great easy listening tune and quite different to some of his other tunes I shared today.
You can see the versitality and how Steve adapted in the 80s. He really gives off those good time feelings that you want to have when you listen to some tunes.

I am a proud owner of Steve Winwood's vinyls I bought back in the 80s. Another favorite is "Higher Love." Years later I learned Chaka Khan sang background vocals and also appeared in the music video for it.
I would go upstairs to take and post a photo of the cover but I'm too cozy under a warm blanket right now as winds blow and snow falls outside.

I haven't had a vinyl collection for some time now, I have mostly been digital for a while. I am probably missing out there.
Yes, that definitely has been the case as music lovers converted from 8 track to cassettes to CD to digital formats through the years. I only kept a handful of 8 tracks but will always cherish my vinyl collection @mypathtofire 🎶💿🎵
I can imagine, I am attached to some of my old CDs and cases too.

Pure 80's vibe! I don't remember listened to the song Valerie before, but I do remember Higher Love and Roll With It.

Steve had such an amazing career. Hard to believe how young he was when he was singing with the Spencer Davis group and Traffic. Such a powerful voice!

By the way, I rarely listen to 80's tunes. And before watching these videos, I didn't expect to see them all. But when I played the first video. So I didn't even know and I watched this whole video. And I watched the rest of the two videos in full because I enjoyed them so much. Very awesome videos ❤️

Great selection! Just a few days ago I listened to Steve's Higher love. I personally think that he is underrated as a musician.
Now they are proper 80s, the first two are proper classics I know well, but I could not tell you that Steve Winwood was the one who was responsible for them.. Nice one man, enjoyed listening to them while doing some mundane work..

Bro, you won't believe me but I had never listened to Steve Winwood until today when I read your post and you have given me a lot of new music to listen to; I like that, lately all the new music I listen to is actually music from the past that I'm just discovering 🤣 Still I know Higher Love from Kygo's version which is fabulous. Regarding Valerie, it's not clear to me if it's the song Amy sings, I just know that that 80's sound is my new passion, but definitely my favorite of your selection today is Roll With It, totally new to me and with a unique and happy sound, I've already listened to it a couple of times so far today and I think it will be with me all weekend 😅
Im glad you have now discovered Steve, he is a great guitarist and has made some great tunes over the years. I think he reinvented himself a few times too and has a new style and sound as he evolved.
