Splinterlands Battle Mage - Going The Distance

Hello Splinterfans!

This week we have the new Battle Mage Secrets weekly challenge with the ruleset Going The Distance.

Going The Distance is a great ruleset with many possibilities to play, preferrably you would want to play the awesome Riftwatchers summoner Ilthain.

With Going The Distance, you can only play ranged attack monsters. For this very ruleset type, I have bought myself the very handy War Chang monster who can play in the tank position.

In today's battle, I have the choice of buffing my attack with Sloan or defbuffing my opponent with Quix the Devious. I opt for Devious this time. We also have the ruleset Little League to mix things up abit.

On to this week's battle.

My Team

This is a high-mana battle with also Little League ruleset, so the choice of monsters is limited.

Summoner/ MonsterReason
Quix the DeviousRanged attack debuff
Venari MarksratRanged attack
Angelic MandarinRanged attack
Xenith ArcherRanged attack
Naga AssassinRanged attack
MerdhampirRanged attack

My opponents

Tower Griffin
Venari Marksrat
Thunderbird
Venari Crystalsmith
Halfling Alchemist
Herbalist

The rules for the battle are:

Little LeagueOnly Monsters & Summoners that cost 4 Mana or less may be used in battles.
Going The DistanceOnly Monsters with Ranged attack may be used in battles.
Healed OutAll healing abilities are removed from Monsters and Summoners.

ROUND 1 - Venari Marksrat vs. Tower Griffin

As hoped for, my opponent has gone for the Sloan ranged attack buff and my Quix debuff will reduce his buff plus I get extra speed on my attack. Very often, I like to play Sloan, but often get debuffed. It often pays to debuff your opponent rather than buff yourself.

Venari is my tank really just as a holding force to give my stronger ranged attack time to deal some damage. How long can he hold out?

The answer is not even the first round, but he takes some damage for the team and Angelic Mandarin with a decent health score takes his place. In the meantime, my opponent has lost 2 monsters already.

ROUND 2 & 3

Tower Griffin has already fallen, but in round 2, it is now the turn of Thunderbird. Both he and my tank survive to face another round.

In round 3 though, things are looking bleak for my opponent as Thunderbird and Venari Crystalsmith both fall and up steps Halfling Alchemist into the tank position.

ROUND 4

At round 4, the writing is on the wall as Halfling Alchemist and Herbalist both fall rapidly with their low health scores. They are no match for my strong ranged attack.

Summary:

With the Going The Distance ruleset, usually you want to play a debuff of the ranged attack like with Quix or Ilthain. Going the Sloan option doesn't very often pay off for me unless there is no way to debuff him.

Quix the Devious is a great legendary summoner to use when you don't have Ilthain and combined with War Chang up front, can really surprise your opponents.

Those ranged only and magic only battles have really been killer for me. I don't have the Gold Foil cards to support most of them. I have some vampire magic cards in the death splinter that usually play out well, but it is always a crap shoot.

I can imagine, especially at a higher level than bronze!! And when land1.5 is here, GFs are gonna vanish big time! lol

The Rare Life Summoner Ilthain and the Legendary Water Summoner Lir Deepswimmer very often perform very well in #Splinterlands Battles with the Going the Distance Rule. 😎

My tests of Lir Deepswimmer were not so good though :(

There are some Battles with the Going the Distance Rule where Lir Deepswimmer doesn't perform very well, and some examples are those Battles with low Mana Caps and those with the Broken Armor Rule. 🤓

In those types of Battles, Ilthain is usually a better Summoner to use. 🤓

There are 3 Life Splinter Monsters which have the Headwinds Ability (which will reduce all opponent Monsters' Ranged Attack by 1), which are the Legendary Runemancer Atuat, Epic Light Elemental (at Level 4), and Common Warrior of Peace (at Level 6). 😏

How do you play the Going The Distance ruleset?

In the real life. I keep my distance from Splinterlands since months, because Splinterlands became too hard to play I do not even know how many months ago. I play other games. For example League of Legends: Wild Rift, and interactive text-based games.

It can be tough playing against the bots. I like League of Legends though, I wish I would play it more often.

Hi, I like "Quix the Devious", reducing speed and ranged attack is very useful.👍👍👍
