5 minute freewrite 2983 prompt don’t go into that forest

This is my post for #freewriters 2983 prompt don’t go into that forest hosted by @mariannewest

I think it was 3 years ago my daughter bought me a matchstick bromeliad and this year was the first time it bloomed. I did not get it covered today because I ran out of old sheets. I hope it will be ok. It is under a catlyn gauva tree so I hope it will not freeze.
The weatherman says my area will not get a freeze, but I do not believe him, because he says 5 miles from my house it will freeze. He says we will have frost. He also said they will have a freeze in Martin County, which is about 60 miles south of me. You tell me we will not freeze, but south of me will???

We have over 800 areca palms and no way to cover them. All we can hope for is that it does not kill them. We will not be able to sell any of them until they grow out of the freeze damage.

I worked all day getting ready for the freeze. I can not believe they fit, but I got all of my orchids and all of my desert roses in the shed. I also put a heater in there on low. I do not like how close it is to some of them, but it is what it is. Don’t go into that forest it is very cramped.

This is the best I could do with the pineapple plants. I think it will work.I wrapped the bottom in cardboard, then piled palm fronds on top of them. I had two pieces of weed mat that I used to cover some of the palm fronds.

I used big flower pots, sheets, totes, and cardboard to cover the plants that I could not take inside. All of this was a huge job.

There is no heat in my husband's shed, but it is better than leaving my Akee trees outside. I bought a Norfolk Island pine on the discount rack at Walmart. I am growing it to be a Christmas tree. They grow in New Zealand. I just did not know if it would survive in a pot, so I put it inside, too.
Sometimes I question why I care to have so many plants, but they give me joy all year, except when it gets this cold. In a couple days I get to uncover and put everything back outside, but then we have another cold front coming this weekend. What to do, what to do?? Leave them inside or take them out so I can put them back??

I do hope your plants are hanging in there. It's discouraging to have so much time and money invested in plants, only to have a frost kill them. You did the best you could to get as many of them protected as possible. If they were my plants, I would just leave them til the next cold front moves through.
