This is my post for #freewriters 2980 prompt not another monster hosted by @mariannewest

The last day my sister and I fished, we came across Long Point Flatt and were near Nancy's Creek Canal Island. My sister watches for pompano to skip, and I watch for them to boil in the water. She saw two skip, which is a good sign that there are some in the area. We anchored and were not there for long when we hooked a large stingray. I did not take any pictures that day. These photos are from years ago.

My sister got it to the side of the boat, and she took a breather, which gave it a chance to suck itself to the bottom. Now it was getting its second wind. It took a while for her to get it back up in the water, and off it went again, taking drag out. After a long fight, she was able to get it back to the side of the boat, and I got it dehooked.

She rebaited, and we sat there for maybe ten minutes and had another fish on a different rod, it was another large stingray. This time I told her not to let it get to the bottom, when they do that, they are resting. She was able to keep it up in the water, and got it to the side of the boat. This one weighed about 40 pounds. With it hanging by the boat, I put the dehooker in the curve of the hook and pulled up. The hook came out and luckily it caught in the dehooker. If it would have come out of it, one of us would have been hooked from the pressure of the stingray being released.

Now we had something on a different rod, I hoped it was not another monster, but it was. This one was as big as the last one. Her arms were hurting from the other two, but she got it to the boat and we got it dehooked. This time we decided it was time to move.

That worked, we did not catch another one. We saw the boat that my husband and his friend, Tim, call Hot Shot catch one, and I was so upset at what he did. It was not as big as the ones we had caught. He dipped it up in a landing net and put it in his boat. We saw him get a knife and he cut its tail off before he dehooked it. They will grow another tail, but I think it is cruel to do this. God gave them a tail for a reason and for me to think of the pain he caused it hurts my heart. I struggle with killing the fish I catch and would not cut part of one off and throw it back.

I like how you described the fishing skills here. Sometimes we feel.same way for animals but remember they are there for our consumption to be alive
