5 minute freewrite 2977 prompt in effect

This is my post for #freewriters 2977 prompt in effect hosted by @mariannewest
I thought yesterday was a bad day, but today was worse. I do not think anyone caught any pompano. Today was rough, in every sense of the word.

I did not want to go back to pompano fishing, but since the jack disappeared, there was nothing else for us to catch, or should I say try to catch. The day started out calm, the type of calm when the river looked like a sheet of glass, but it was not long before the wind picked up.

I thought for a quick second we were going to sink. My sister was sitting on the seat in the stern when a big wave hit that side of the boat, in effect about ten gallons of water came in, and I screamed at my sister to get to the other side of the boat. It was close, too close. My boat sits low in the water by itself. I will have to keep an eye on where she sits when it is rough.
We saw pompano everywhere at Long Point, there were two other boats there, and they would not bite for any of us. We caught three large stingrays and three catfish.
When we left Long Point, it was blowing around twenty knots, the wind was south. We were straight across the river from the creek, that is where we needed to go to the boat ramp. I could not go straight across so I ran the east shore far enough south so I could go at an angle back to the north to get the creek.

Once up the creek, we stopped at the railroad bridge and fished for about fifteen minutes, we caught two catfish. We were both beat and our bodies were sore from being rocked back and forth in the boat. We headed to the ramp.
You should always look for the good in a day, and we found it when we were near the ramp. At least we were not the poor fellow who was chest deep, holding onto his canoe and scouring the river bottom for his belongings. I would have stopped to help him, but two other boats were helping.

I thank God you are alive -- that scared ME and I wasn't even there -- but we know the Lord looks out for His disciples in boats, so He looked out for you and your sister!
