This is my post for #freewriters 2931 prompt not quit yet hosted by @mariannewest

I despise fiberglassing, PERIOD!

It took till almost ten this morning to get everything ready to glass. Then my daughter comes up and says, don't you think we need to cover the pool. Of course, all week we have had a west wind, but the day I have to grind fiberglass, it goes northeast, which is the direction of the swimming pool.

If you put baby powder on any exposed skin before grinding, the grinding dust is not as bad as sticking into your skin. But we were out of it, and I did not think to ask my sister to bring some when she came. I covered as best I could. I wrapped an old shirt around my neck and put a grocery bag over my shoulders, and one on my hat. I wore two masks, safety goggles, and gloves. I still feel like I rolled in a patch of sandspurs.

I was grinding the old bottom paint and gel coat and it cut another hole in the boat. It is not a big hole, just a slit like the leak.

Yesterday, while buying the resin, my sister said, it never ends, does it? I told her, welcome to the life of a fisherman. There is always something to work on. After this leak incident sent her anxiety through the roof, I am proud that she has not quit yet.

This is a big hole. I was grinding the inside and tried to get close to the crack that was leaking, and the slit I cut by accident caught the grinding disk, and it ripped a hole.

We cut two pieces of fiberglass matting to cover the holes. I had my sister fray the edges of the matting, which makes it feather out around the edges instead of having a seam around it.

The best way to glass upside down is to use aluminum foil. I used the heavy duty type. To do this, you wet the foil with resin and lay one piece of matting on it, and wet it down with resin using a paintbrush. Then do the same with the other piece. Once you get the resin on them, you press the entire thing up to the bottom of the boat and use a roller to smooth it out. Tomorrow I will peel the foil that I can off, using it in the river will take off what I can not get.

It has not rained in over a month, and today it looked like it might start pouring at any second. I did not want to take the chance, so I will do the inside tomorrow.

That looks like a complicated and very messy project. Your DIY protective suit is impressive!

Thanks, I still got the dust around my neck and face, but it was not as bad as it would have been without anything over me.

Safety is very paramount especially if you are in the waters. Glad she hasn't quit yet following the numerous things to be done on the boat.

Yes, safety is important, but I knew we would be ok, even if the pump quit, I could pull the boat plug, and as long as I stayed going fast the water would run out of the boat.
