5 minute freewrite 2788 prompt joystick
This is my post for #freewriters 2788 prompt joystick hosted by @mariannewest
After a long dry spell, we are now getting rain every day, and this little purple alamanda tree has fallen over. I was going to hook a come-a-long to my truck and a rope around the tree and pull it back straight. I had a 4x4 to prop it up with, but my husband said it would fall again. He wants me to cut it back, way back!!!
I was cutting it back and reaching all around where the nest is hanging. If you look right above the water spigot, you can see them.
I enlarged this photo
I will never learn to heed their warning. I wear a big floppy hat and reached in to cut another branch, and I felt something fluttering under the brim of my hat and the back of my head. Before I could get my hat off, I saw a wasp fly off. I did not think it was a warning, but it was.
I watched where it landed and thought that was the area its nest was in. I was wrong. I reached in with all the confidence of a kid holding a joystick and playing his favorite game.
That is when they got me, twice on the left hand middle finger, once between the thumb and pointing finger, and once on the underside of my thumb. And then, one smartarse flew over and stung me on the right arm, up near my shoulder.
These are the ones that my husband is highly allergic to. I will try to spray them right before dark tonight, that is when they will all be back on the nest. I doubt that I will get them all in one night, but hopefully there won't be as many tomorrow.
What a nice day
OH wasps can be terrifying, good that you GOT 'EM! !BBH
