This is my post for #freewriters 2726 prompt aluminum frame hosted by @mariannewest

Just like working on the boat trailer, I am also tired of writing about it, but with this prompt, I have to write more about it. You see, it has an aluminum frame. If you will be using a boat trailer in saltwater, this is the type of boat trailer to buy. They are very pricey but well worth the money, if you can afford one. The problem is that you have to buy parts from the company that makes them, and they cost more than parts for a galvanized trailer, but they last so much longer.

There is only a couple of years difference between this galvanized trailer and my sister's aluminum trailer. You can see where the rust started, that is how far I always backed it into the river.

It is a shame it rusted away because a year and a half ago, I bought a new axle, springs, and put new bearings in the hubs. I will remind my husband of this because they might fit his boat trailer. But if we take the axle off, I do not know how we will get it to the scrapyard.

Today, my husband and I took the boat to Donald McDonald boat ramp and took the boat off the trailer. We had too much tongue weight, so we had to move the wench stand as far back as we could move it. We both wished it could go further back, but that was as far as it would go.

I also made a big mistake when hooking up the new battery. My positive and negative cables look alike, and I thought I laid them in a way that I would know which was which. Somehow I got them crossed. I tried to start the motor, and it did not sound right or turn over. After messing with the starter because it was not engaging, I told my husband, let me swap the wires on the battery. He was afraid that if they were right and I switched them, it might blow something up on the motor. So we cut the protective covering from the wires and followed the hot wire from the starter to the positive post on the battery, and found I had hooked them up wrong. I would not have done this in my younger years. I was lucky I did not burn something up or blow a fuse.

The boat is finally ready. Maybe tomorrow my sister will come over and we can load all of the pigfish traps in it, so when I get back from the west coast, we can put them in the river and hope the bait is big enough to fish with. I also hope she can catch enough fish to make it worth doing all of this work.

Good to hear that the motor didn't blow up! And, you could fix it all by yourself!
