5 minute freewrite 2722 prompt my dead cousin
This is my post for #freewriters 2722 prompt my dead cousin hosted by @mariannewest
When I was a child, we spent every Sunday visiting with my Grandmother. My Aunt and Uncle also lived there with their five children. On Friday and Saturday, my Aunt and Uncle would bring my cousins to the Inlet where I lived. There were cabins that they sometimes stayed in, and sometimes they only stayed for the day.
In the above photo, from the 1960s, left to right, is my little brother Hoss, sister Christine, me holding my nephew Troy, the little boy is my cousin Dale, the tall one is cousin Curtis, then cousin Cathy, and the last one is my sister Kathy.
My Dad and his sister, Aunt Elizabeth, both named their daughters Kathy and Cathy. When these two Kathys married and had a daughter, they each named them Cassandra and each called their daughter Cassie. Neither knew the other gave the same name.
When we had to leave our home because the State of Florida wanted the land to make a State Park, my dad had no idea where we were going to live, he said he would know it when he found it. The first place we stayed was a campground 2 hours from the inlet, this was 1971. My Aunt and Uncle drove there to spend more time with us. In this photo the back row is my sister Christine, cousin Cathy, me, cousin Curtis, the front row is sister Kathy, cousin Dale, and brother Hoss.
My cousins have two older brothers, Denny and Jerry. Denny is still with us, but Jerry is my dead cousin. After I moved back to Florida in 1979, around 1983, Jerry lived with me. When Jerry left my house, no one knew what happened to him. My Aunt Elizabeth reported him missing, and it was close to ten years later when she found out he had passed away. They identified him from DNA, a detective from Las Vegas contacted her, and said they found him, he was a John Doe case they had. My Aunt finally could rest her mind as to what happened to him. She went to Las Vegas to talk with the detective and see where they found him, I guess this brought her peace. After that, she went to Las Vegas every year. I have lost 5 brothers and one cousin.

How sad ... but a detective's work at last brought a measure of peace.
Yes, peace is what it brought to my Aunt.
