This time of year, we never know what kind of weather we will get. My husband fished today and he said when he got to Long Point it was blowing out of the NW and cold, he said he thought he was going to freeze to death, joking, and that is saying something for him, he never gets cold, and he left the house in shorts and no shoes, he never wears shoes, only in the coldest part of winter or going in stores.
To the west of him on the nature preserve, they were doing a controlled burn, and he said big pieces of ash was falling all around him.
He said he went to the west shore where the wind was not as bad and maybe it would not be as cold. He was not there very long, and the wind went east and the weather warmed up, and now he was hot, and big chunks of ash was now falling on him coming from the east. He said it was ash that was blown west but not landed yet, and when the wind changed, it blew back at him.
He only caught three pompano. I am not sure when his last day fishing was before this day, but it has been weeks since he made a paycheck, and it would have been nice if he could have caught something today, but that's fishing for you.
He is still upset over losing a lizard from his boat a few weeks ago. He said it was his buddy and kept him entertained while he talked to it. So he drilled holes in the top of an old coffee cup and put it on his boat. Today, he said he put two lizards in jail. He found them on the boat after he was on the river. They would not go in the cup on their own, not even if he would have asked them to walk this way, please they would not do it. He had to catch them and put them in the cup with a small amount of water, and when he got home, he released them. He told me he was not having another lizard drown.

Your description of ash falling reminds me of the forest fires we get in this area sometimes. It's quite yucky. Did any get on the fish?
The fish are in the river, and the ash falls apart when it hits the water, so I do not think it hurts the fish. As for the fish he catches, they go on ice in a cooler so it does not get on them.
They used to call these burns "controlled burns," but I guess too many get out of control, so now they call them prescribed burns. lol
Ha ha! I have heard of those labels in this area, too, and you could be right!
I hate it when they change a name of something that we have called another name from the beginning of its time.
