In a small, quiet village nestled among the lush green hills, there lived a young man named Ryker. He was the son of the most respected snake charmer in the world. For as long as Ryker could remember, he had watched in wonder as the cobra would raise its head and sway when it heard the sound of his fathers bamboo flute. His father taught him music, but more importantly, he taught him the heart of the art.

My son, his father would say in a voice as soft as the breeze, a snake does not dance out of compulsion. It dances out of the music of its soul. You must treat them with kindness and respect, not fear or anger. They are not your puppets. They are your partners.

Ryker had learned the tunes, but he struggled to fully understand the deep respect his father spoke of. He could imitate the melodies, but it was harder to learn the melody of compassion. When his father died, the shah expected Ryker to carry on the tradition. He took his fathers place and performed in the village square. He was skilled but lacked his fathers gentle touch. The snake obeyed, but there was no real harmony between them. One afternoon during a performance, a drunk in the crowd rushed forward, shouting and waving his arms, trying to rouse the snake. Startled and defensive, the cobra lunged forward and its teeth sank into Rykers arm. The crowd screamed and scattered. The village elders, concerned for everyones safety, fined Ryker and forbade him from performing in the village again.

Ryker was furious. His arm was aching, and his pride was deeply wounded. He was furious at a creature he could anger. He beat the snake and he was furious. He didnt kill it, but from that day on, the bond between him and the snake was severed. The snake didnt listen. Every time Ryker played the flute, the snake didnt jump. The snakes body was tense with anger and fear, ready to strike. His mother, who spoke little but had infinite wisdom, saw the despair in her sons eyes. She placed a hand on his shoulder and whispered. Ryker, your fathers words are not rules. They are keys. Think about what he told you.
