HOW MY FRIEND TEGA WENT BACK TO SQUARE ONE
I met him at a particular field where guys come around every Saturday to play ball. You know how entertaining and interesting we guys find football. So we will always come around and play football which afterwards, we will have a good time to discuss before going back to our respective houses. I knew him to be a Laundry Guy who had a well furnished and excellent office/Shop. He had many customers mostly Yahoo boys who loves the fact that he is a fellow young guy like them earning a living through a legal means. Meanwhile, I had already asked him how he was able to get the money he used to open his shop and he said, "Omor guy, nah God seriously. I booked a game sometime last year with #2000 and the jackpot ticket got released, fortunately it was my ticket. Nah so God take run am for me o. I have landed properties and decided to open this office to get steady source of income even as my land investments keeps rising". I was very happy when he told me this story. Although I am not a fan of betting and the rest, but when I discovered that he utilised the opportunity made me happy.
With time, I got more closer to him. I discovered this particular character of his that gave me a big concern. He is a very handsome guy. And you know ladies, seeing a handsome guy like that who has an established business that is well known in the area always made them come around him. He is this type of guy that does not reject advances of ladies on him. So he will always change them like the way he changes his clothes. Most times, he will lock up the shop or hand it over to someone just to have time to do his stuff at home or a hotel. I talked to him about it, I am sure and convinced that I did all I could to make sure he stops that particular style of life. He is an adult, and what I had to say would only change 10% of his mind, the remaining 90% is his decision to make. It was as if he stopped when one particular incident happened. There was this girl he had something with which I was aware. After a month, the young lady came to his shop when we were playing game, she told him that she was pregnant. He was terrified because of the kind of family he came out from. But on the contrary, he is man enough to take responsibility of his actions. This simply means that he was ready to father the child and also husband the girl. One funny thing there is that this girl in question also had a friend who had interest in this guy, she decided to verify hoe true the story is. She went to meet her friend her friends house who trusted her enough to disclose the fact that Kingsley is not the father of her child. She just wanted to keep him, extort money from him and make his life miserable. Unknown to her, her friend recorded the conversation and sent it to Tega which he used as an evidence to get himself out of that particular problem. We used(I and other of his friends) used that incident to give him the insult of his life. We talked sense into him and it was as if he stopped. At least the ones I witnessed, a regular girl that always come around called him and he told her, "I don't want please", right in from of me.
After some months, I started seeing him with one particular girl. It was very obvious that he was really into that particular girl without knowing her intentions towards him. Everyone of us were aware that they had something serious and we were just waiting for the time he will tell us that he is ready to settle down with her. He dated her for two months before he got a particular idea that changed his life. He wanted to go overseas. Meanwhile he never told me which is his very close friend, rather he told only his girlfriend. He never had the idea of how to process his VISA and the rest, instead of him to tell someone that he is sure has such idea and knowledge he decides to do as his girlfriend says to him. His mother told him to do his processing with someone she is sure of, but he declined ,"My babe has someone that does it. The person is even in Lagos", he said to her. Of course no one ever believed that Shantel (His girlfriend) will do that kind of thing, so his mother obliged to his decision. We did not know that she was working with her original boyfriend who is in Lagos to dupe Tega. She made him sell everything he had in his shop, "Give him the money to start the processing", she will say to him. Tega sold everything in his shop and gave the guy the money. The money was not enough, he sold three of his landed properties and they agreed to the fact that the money would be enough to sold the problem. The guy gave him the to travel. A week to the time the guy gave him, Shantel complained to him that her mother was sick and she wanted to go over her place to stay with her, she left and joined her fellow fraudster in Lagos. And they disappeared. Tega left to the park that very day he was told, started calling the guy's number to remind him that he was supposed to come that day, the guy refused to pick his call. He tried several times, the guy finally picked, "Guy you dey craze? If them dupe you, move on nah, nah street we dey guy", he said to him. I was in school when I got the call that he fainted and was rushed to the hospital. He was depressed, he wanted to kill himself. Buy God willing, he survived that. And he learnt his lesson. He said I should drop his story for others to see and becareful. The days are evil.
