Physical Library Will Be Here Still

The first time I walked into a modern library, in my head, I started to think that nothing, no civilization will ever be able to erode the relevance of a library. I was a freshman at the University and one of the general course I was to take in the first semester was Introduction To Library Studies. I remember vividly how I attended the lecture of this particular course with utmost attention and punctuality.

At this time, the internet was a new development. You will remember how the viral statement Y2K Compliant made the airwave in the year 2000 and early 2000. Till date, to complete research work, one may not need to consult the internet source alone, else, there may be a lot of wrong data collection.

In our time, libraries have gone beyond hardcopy books as most books now have their electronic version.

I respect the fact that civilization keeps increasing every time but sometimes, se civilization may never go into extinction. One such civilization is the invention of the library. The concept of libraries can be traced to ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. It was known as a major center of scholarship and contained a vast collection of scrolls and texts from across the ancient world.

Libraries have continued to evolve and have remained relevant, adapting to technological advancement such as the internet and digital media. There are many reasons why libraries would remain relevant having been around for thousands of years.

Access To Information
Libraries can provide you with access to a wide range of resources, both digital and physical, that may be difficult to obtain in any other place such as articles, films, books, journals and databases that are essential for learning, research and so on.

Digital Literacy
Back in my university library, there was no training session for individuals of all ages on digital Literacy and how to use digital tools effectively. This is to make individuals meet up with the demand of the new age library model. Electronic library may not be able to erode the library of physical books, it could only complement it.

Equal Access
In a world where electronic media is the order of the day, you will bear me witness that the internet is not accessible to everyone whereas where the internet may not be available or reached, you will see the existence of physical libraries. In a nutshell, this is to say that physical libraries are more available to people than the electronic sources of materials for scholarly purposes and so on.

Support For Intellectual Research
A physical library gives researchers more concrete and accurate data when they embark on research. I have seen conflicting and inaccurate information on the internet. This is so because anyone can change a material on the internet for selfish reasons.

Having said this, we cannot overemphasise the importance of the electronic or digital collection of materials. Modern lifestyle has come to make life much easier than what it used to be. Some libraries have logged all their materials into the internet space.

To access the library, all you need to do is to subscribe and use which sometimes ces with a heavy cost. The cost when compared to having to travel to the location of the physical library may be said to be fair enough.

Though, the digital library has made many people become lazy. The world and its inhabitants are lazier compared to people of the older generation due to modernization and inventions like this.
