The basics of spells and magic
I’ve noticed I have recommended a few spells in the past but didn’t even brought up basic concepts to understand before practicing. Or how to go about this. So here are some tips. I’m no expert since every practice is very personal and only you can attest the results of it, but this can clear some questions, or better, create more.

With that said, the most powerful spells tend to be ones that are directed and focused with intention, because that's how the psychology of magick works (and how things work alchemically, if you're into that)! The specificity you give spells is what makes them powerful. So I've found having a general spellbook/stock type spells work best more of a foundation or outline that I can add/subtract/create my own from, rather than just pulling from randomly when one feels like. Maybe explore journaling and/or creating your own Book of Shadows or grimoire? I'm guessing maybe that may be what you're collecting these for, but I'd recommend writing your own!

I would also highly recommend starting any magick you practice with grounding yourself, and if you don't already have a meditation practice that is key! Finding and learning to listen to one's inner voice is a journey that can years, but is so rewarding. I know this isn't what you're asking, but and it seems like you may be asking for some foundational practices.

Witchcraft is intensely personally first and foremost. So ask yourself: What prompted you to post this? What is drawing your interest to witchcraft? What are you hoping to gain? What are your goals/intentions? Can you affirm your own worth, ability, capacity, and energy first? You don't have to tell me! Just questions that I think you may like to consider.

Then one might go around studying different practices like I’ve seen a lot of people talk about sigils and spell jars as ways of doing spells. Sometimes freezer spells if it seems appropriate. I’ve also been trying to think of a good way with herbs and water, but aside from a ritualistic sort of bath I haven’t found much yet.

One uncommon but meaningful way is to point one's finger at something and give it a name. That is one of the most basic units of magic, the symbol of a name.

But have in mind that most people are stuck in very human ways of thinking about magic. What color should I choose? or does herb have x association? None of those things have a universal application. All human operate in symbol though. And also while I'm at it. The word witch is really imprecise. We now use the word witch as some sort of indicator of personal power or some kind of religious affiliation. Anthropologically a witch is an evil mostly non human person. The correct term would be magician or sorcerer. All magic is matrix of Will, Belief and Symbol intertwined.

Hahahaah i love this song so much. Sorry i got carried away experimenting with the themes of witchcraft. In my defense this was supposed to be only a spell crafting post but when i remembered this song for when thinking about the title i just had to put this in as well too.
