Chocolate Cake with 80s-90s Style Filling and Frosting

There was a magical time, between the 80s and 90s, when happiness had the intense and unmistakable flavor of a homemade chocolate cake. It wasn't just any cake, it was THE cake.

The key to its magic was the combination of the fluffy cocoa batter with the creamy frosting and, above all, the irresistible crunch of sprinkles or shavings on top. This contrast of textures and the aroma that filled the house transformed the cake into much more than a dessert; it was the materialization of happy, family-oriented, and carefree moments, representing the sweetness and joy of an era. In this post, I hope to share the recipe for one of these cakes that marked our childhood.

For the cake:

In a blender, beat:

  • 4 eggs
  • 1 bowl of sugar
  • 1 bowl of milk
  • 1 bowl of oil
  • 1 bowl of cocoa powder

Blend the mixture well for 2 minutes, then add the

  • flour,
  • baking powder

And blend for a few seconds

After that: Pour into a rectangular pan greased with cocoa powder and butter and bake

For the brigadeiro or filling:

Mix well in a deep saucepan:

  • sweetened condensed milk
  • cocoa powder

Then mix in more with:

  • heavy cream
  • butter

Then cook over medium heat until it reaches a thick, creamy consistency

With the cake still warm and out of the oven,
Unmold it and cut it in half. Place the bottom half back inside the pan just to prevent the frosting and filling from sticking. Squirt a little milk over half of the cake where the brigadeiro filling will be placed, and put the filling on top of the bottom half of the cake.

After that, replace the other half of the cake on top to seal the filling.

For the crunchy topping:

Finally, add the following to a saucepan or frying pan:

  • sugar,
  • cocoa powder or Nescau,
  • milk,
  • butter.

Then mix the ingredients very well until bubbles form, then turn off the heat and immediately pour over the cake until it is completely soaked.

Congrats! You have successfully made your 80s to 90s cake!

Now wait for it to dry, cut into pieces and enjoy!
