Eternal question of existence

"The great art of life is sensation, to feel that we exist, even in pain."
-
Lord Byron

There are several ways in which I would interpret this quote. Either way, I find it very comforting. Let me explain why, and how I understand it.

  1. Existence
As someone who often wonders about the deepest secrets of the universe and eternal question - "why do we even exist?", I love to see a quote that I could relate to. When you have that dark cloud of thoughts in your head, not constantly, but often, interfering with your peace, you often try to find comfort in simple things, as simple as feeling to be alive. For example, when you are floating in the seawater, while it's raining, half of your body underwater, other half covered in raindrops. You can feel every inch of your skin, you are there, you are present, you are alive. Or maybe something even more simple, as just breathing. Breathing with your full body, feeling that air coming insdie of you. So this is my first interpretation. Lord Byron is saying that, even something as simple as being able to feel alive, is enough.

  2. Art
For me, the point of art is not to be beautiful, but to make you feel something. So I really love the choice of words Lord Byron did, saying art of life, as I believe art is something that is supposed to make us feel (no matter what those feelings are) and also art is something that is left behind, as proof of life and existence before and after us.

  3. Feelings
End of quote, says even in pain, and I think, that is supposed to comfort us, that even those bad feelings, and pain, are part of life, and what makes us feel alive. AS we often ask ourselves why there is even pain and bad and evil in the life, most times bad feelings are those that we feel more intense.

Knowing how huge universe is, and how small we are, it's hard to think that we do have any purpose and that we matter at all, in any way. But then still, we are here.

This quote also reminds me of another one, from the song "Saturn" by Sleeping at last:
"With shortness of breath
I'll try to explain the infinite
And how rare and beautiful it is to even exist
"

So if you ever feel down, just rember, after all it's truly amazing that we even exist.

Topics for this #weekend-engagement were really interesing to me, it was really hard to chose one and write about it.
Thank you for reading my post^^
Love&Peace
