I think more awareness on recycling should be made to the public. Everyone needs to know the importance and why it should be practiced.

I would also say here, the collections need to be clear about what can and cannot be recycled as well.
In the US at least, they made a system where the recycling arrows triangle has a number inside to tell you what kind of plastic it is. The recycling bin will often say they accept any number 1-7, which is ALL plastic (#7 just means "other"), but it isn't true. They won't take plastic film or bags (#4) or styrofoam (#6), but people see the number and throw it in there. It was literally designed to figure people so they use plastic and think it's ok because it can be recycled.
This contamination can break the machinery in the recycling plant, and it's also why China stopped taking other countries' recycling because they only wanted #1 or #2 bottles (the most commonly recycled plastic), but it kept coming to them full of other things they could not recycle.
