I believe employers CAN require it, but should not.

Work is work and home is home.

As long as I one doesn't use social media at work on company resources, then there is no "need" for them to know. They might want to know, but that is different.

Most would balk if their employer required a list of all of their friends and acquaintances in order to work there. Same thing.

One could always go home and misrepresent or besmirch the company to all of their friends in the offline world, but most would not feel that it was OK to require a list of them as a condition for employment.

Having said all of that I do believe a company CAN require all of those things and more if they want. I just don't think most would work there. 😀
