The weather, crop yield and discovering why we chose to plant different specie of thesame crops

It has been a good weather so ever since the rains resumes falling and this has been good for all the crops we have planted after the August dry spell when there was no rain for about a month that disturbed and destroyed the growth of the earlier planted crops.

I realized why it is even more important to plant different specie of thesame crops most especially when they are available.

For this rice plants we have the long grain rice which spends about half of the year for its growth. It is often planted in the month of May and harvested in Oct/Nov. This is one of the most producing specie of rice that I have ever known. It produces very large amount of grains compared to the short grain producing rice specie.

The disadvantages of planting that particular rice specie is the length of time it uses fo produce food and this time duration makes the specie expensive go maintain.
One has to carry out weeding about 2-3consecutive time before the rice grains are ready for harvest.

The short grain rice on the other hand is much less expensive go maintain, max number of times for weeding this is just twice after the rice is planted. Production of seeds is very much faster with the short grain rice such that if this specie of rice is planted in the month of August, there is possiblity of harvest by December. It will take the whole of August-November to both grow and produce seeds while the grains will ripen up and be harvested in the beginnings of the month of December.

Yearly we chose to plant both specie of the rice grains. The short grain rice is often easily affected by rainfall. While the long grain rice are better adapted to drought. Planting both specie will assure us of some harvest from one specie if the other refuses go produce well, the only challenge now is the difficulty of nurturing of the different specie at different times, it doesn't give one the room to get some work break/rest during the farming seasons. We start the planting of long grain rice early and carry out weeding exercises both manually or with herbicides 2-3 times and in between we choose a good timing to plant the short grain rice in order for it to meet with the best conditions for growth against any hard weather

Great, it's a good enough reason to plant both species, one's strength make up for the other's weakness. Well done
