Isn't it delightful to see that my mom and I have left a good legacy for the community here? We were the ones who first started river bank cultivation of fluted pumpkins which have now become a very lucrative business for the community here.

Each time the women need assistance with one or two things in growing their pumpkins, we gladly help them out.

The method of growing pumpkins before now is quit different from this method. Been a climber crops we have often planted it with a bridge above it for the plant to grow tall and climb up high to fork a canopy above the ground. Until the very first time my mum decided to plant it on the ground and allow it to spread like some cover crop.

This method did worked and instead of allowing it to take so much time before harvest we decided to try a bi-weekly harvest. This seems so close and the pumpkins often do not have enough time to produce more veggies be fore the next harvest, hence we turned it to at least once in three weeks harvest. Since then it became a possibility to grow fluted pumpkins on the ground like cover crops and harvest them once within three weeks.

For people with very large farms. The farm can be divided into portion, once we carry out harvest on one portions this week, the next portion is harvested in the coming week and the harvest rotation goes on and on.

Yesterday I was helping out a neighbor with preparing her fluted pumpkins for harvest. We often have plants well watered before harvest so that they will not dry off from the impart of cutting a portion of their stems and leaves. Watering is done at least 3 times in a week before harvest and after harvest as well.

With proper care, this fluted has grown so well and quite impressive. The leaves are dark green an indication that the soil here is really fertile. Out of all the times I have been growing pumpkins I have never seen them grow so well and with this healthy leaves.

Harvest will be this weekend and we are going straight from the farm to the market to go sell the veggies.
