Manual weeding method for our farms, best weed control measure and important knowledge of herbicides you should know
HELLO HIVE
With growing corn, we have experienced some success and made some harvest, but with soy beans, we had a total loss of the crops.
We equally planted cassava in the farms. Going about this as a mixed farming method, we have hoped to harvest at least a portion of the various crops so that they can make up for the millions of capital we have invested in the farming.
After the corn harvest and soy bean loss, we have come to take care of the cassava we have planted to see if it will grow well to produce anything for us.
A series of learning experiences was gotten from our farming exercise, and even though we lost a lot of finances in this first year, I believe that the experience is good enough for the coming year.
Today we are on the farm again with the hope of clearing the weeds that have choked our cassava. It has been over two months since we planted these, and it's already hard to spot the cassava amongst the weeds.
How fast these weeds grow to choke our crops.
What are the best weed control measures we can use for our farms, as everyone is clamoring biological foods as against the use of herbicides in farms?
We started the weeding with our hoes, but who can weed the large acres of farmland with hoes as in manual labor? How many days will we need to get this completed? This will definitely be a whole lot of work here.
Weeding acres of field here with manual labor won't be feasible for us in the present technological age.
If we want to use herbicides, it is good to have quality knowledge of herbicides in order to know which one does not pose a threat to our health and ecosystem.
When you see a chemical with this kind of symbol, it means that they do not pose any of the threats or the hazardous efflux is less harmful. The chemicals have been classified according to the level of threat they pose to both the plant and indirectly yo farmers.
It is a good thing to know that the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency of our country (NAFDAC) is also involved in controlling the rate and use of hazardous herbicides in the country.
They often visit chemical stores and ban the sales and use of dangerous chemicals. Most of these farmers have no proper knowledge of the use of herbicides, the instructions on use, and all the dos and don'ts. They just use these herbicides as they seem fit. The use of chemicals can ease our labor, but we are often mindful of the hazardous effects as well.
We got this perfect selective chemical for our farms. It is a selective chemical as it will clear the weeds, leaving our cassava unharmed.
We got the spraying cans and water from a nearby village, as the farm is miles away from town. My brothers are here mixing and helping with the spraying of chemicals. This will ease our work while we can concentrate on the numerous harvests from other farms.
Manual weeding method for our farms, may be the best approach so far, but how many crops can you grow that will be sustainable for a lot of people using such methods? Hence, it is only fair if we can make use of controlled chemicals with no hazards in our farms. And it is equally important to have the knowledge the of herbicides appropriate herbicides to use per time and in the right measure.
