Important use for Casava Tuber and preparation for Harvest.
Hello Hive
A pleasant new day to everyone. It is indeed a blessing to sleep and wake up, even more so because we are able to do our daily activities without sickness and pain. It's a privilege to wake up refreshed every morning without these limitations.
We were able to visit the farm yesterday to check on the next activities to be done, and right there and then the cassava was calling to be harvested. The cassava are barely a year old, and you won't believe that because of just how much these have really produced well.
With the right species, crop, and fertile soil, these kinds of results are not difficult. In all my years of growing crops, I have never met with this much productivity with cassava. A very thick stem, tall plant, and dark green color of the leaves like this are an indication of a healthy plant with much yield.
Harvest can begin now, but we are often required to do some preparations before any harvest. We have to work out the modalities of the processing for these before we can proceed to harvest them.
Most times when we harvest cassava, the processing should commence that day or the next in order to prevent damage to the harvest. Cassava has very diversified and important uses in my community and the country at large. Cassavas are processed into different valuable crops such as
Cassava flour for turning meals
Garri for drinking and turning meals
Directly boiled cassava for eating.
And while at harvest, we are going to process the cassava into these for preservation and consumption.
While our cassava is ready for harvest, we have to stay by it and make sure that their herders do not come with their cattle to destroy our crops. Since this is by the river where the animals often come and feed, whenever the animals are hungry, their owners often steal and uproot people's crops to feed their animals.
We are getting ready to harvest our crops. We would be needing more hands here, as harvest is often a lot of work. I and my sister walked through the farm, did one of two things, and then harvested some veggies for soup before heading home.
