Harvesting our family grown African star Apples and some important health benefits you shouldn't ignore.
Hello Hive
Happy New week to our dearest passionate bloggers and homesteaders on the Blockchain. I hope that the new week brings us good tidings and that our labors will be crowned with good success, good weather and the right atmosphere for us to grow our food.
Check out this African Star Apple fruits my daddy has gone harvested right there in our family farm and sent some to us in the city. My family has grown a good number of fruit trees over the years.
The success of these grown trees comes from the fact that my state has some of the best soil and good weather for growing crops compared to where we live in the city. It is more like a semi-forest and has a substantial amount of rainfall yearly. This makes it really easy to crop both grains and fruit crops, but food crops thrive better. We have mangoes, banana and plantain, lots of palm trees, oranges, African Star Apple and others. The land is actually a good location for plantation farming, and as soon as I am able to get some capital together, this is another system of farming I will like to explore more.
Last year when I started some commercial farming, we started with stables/grains. We have grown corn, soybeans, and cassava. It was a first-time adventure and wasn't really profitable, but the experience gained from there can be utilized in any further commercial farming.
Growing fruit trees will be a more profitable venture, as planting is done only once while harvesting and the like can continue for years.
Lightly as food is taken to be in this part of the world, only a few people know and are aware of the health importance of taking different kinds of fruits.
The vitamins and minerals gotten from these fruits are the perfect booster needed by our immune systems. This African star apple, for instance, contains a lot of vitamin C. And one of the striking health benefits is how beneficial it is for pregnant women.
I was amazed when Grandma taught me that they have often used "Udara," as this fruit is particularly called, to aid pregnancy development. The same way they use jute mallow vegetables to aid labor during childbirth. Our mothers have some real experience when it comes to using traditional methods, leaves, and vegetables to take care of their health. Jute mallow is used to aid faster labor, while this African star apple is used to support pregnancy development. The local women are often encouraged to eat a good number of these fruits whenever they are pregnant. We equally have the herbalist who prepared beneficial veggies for these women.
We do have some tasty African star apples around, and you may want to pick some and eat them this season.
I love this fruit. I never thought you could grow it yourself. I always thought it was a nature thing which comes by itself. This is interesting to know
Well we are replacing most of the trees here as older ones no longer produce fruits.
