Groundnut Harvest Process, Different approach to harvest that we can use.
Hello Hive
Saturdays are often a busy day for us at the farm. Yesterday was no different. We spent the entire day at the farm. Groundnut harvest has just begun for the last batch of our groundnuts.
I'm just glad that we planted our groundnut in batches and even when rain damaged the first batch of the groundnuts, these large batch are able to give us some foods.
When we got to our farm fo begin harvest, I took up a bunch of groundnut plant and opened up the nut to see the seed within, it appeared a little immature and I suggested it to dad that we should give it some few more days
Daddy is typically in a hurry to harvest the groundnuts out of the beans so that they can feel free to produce more. As the month of October ends, we would be able to harvest these and by then they will be more matured.
Groundnuts harvest process is usually a time consuming task, even though it may not be entirely tedious. After uprooting the groundnut plants from it's root we then proceed to pluck off the seeds one after the other.
Since we were unable go harvest our own groundnut we joined our neighbors in their own harvest.
In this neighborhood alot of farmers plant thesame type of crops almost side by side with each other.
It makes work easier for us to assist each other especially with task that are time consuming as this. Whenever it's time for our own harvest, we will all be here together.
During our harvest above last year we were uprooted the plant and plucking off the nuts from it at the same time, but for this year I just learnt about a different approach. Instead of plucking the groundnuts, they uprooted the groundnuts and decided to spread it around the farm for the leaves to dry off.
Once the leaves are dried off like the ones here they would then use sticks go beat the nuts off the stem. I don't know how possible it will be for the nuts not to open up during this process but I'm opened to learn new things. Groundnuts are uprooted and the plant and leaves on it are allowed to dry off for a few days before the nuts are then beating off the plants, cleaned up and processed. This approach is often done for by farmers with very large groundnut fields most especially in the rural areas.
I have equally heard of sophisticated machines used for groundnut harvest over there but haven't been able to see one. Groundnut harvest has began and you will see plenty of groundnuts everywhere.
I am very happy right now
