Animals invade and destroyed part of our Maturing Corn

Everyone is highly expectant of when this corn will be ready for consumption. Basically, this kind of corn is grown for immediate consumption, and roasted or boiled corn is sold on the streets. We neither store these nor process them into flour. There are various kinds of cornmeal out here. The ones we process the corn into flour just like semovita for making turning food. While for the other types, the corn was soaked in water, ground in that form, and used to make jelly-like food like custard. The grains harvested when we grow corn in large quantities are often used for such.

The other little quantity of corn grown in this manner is basically for immediate consumption. Hence everyone is on the lookout for when these will be ready.

Still, in that vein, we have really got a lot of work to do in protecting the corn. Animals are in the competition to graze and drink water from the river here while humans also want to utilize the same location to grow veggies and corn.

The animal rearers hardly keep any concern for what people grow here, and often times their goats and cattle cause mass destruction of our crops and wasted labor for us.

This makes growing any food very challenging. We have to constantly come around the farm to keep away animals that will stray into the farm to feed rather than drink water from the river or turn to grazing in surrounding locations. Here is the latest event from yesterday.

We got to the site towards the evening since we couldn't make it to the farm in the morning, as my sister was having her exams.

Most of the corn was trodden down and eaten by the animals. This portion was completely destroyed as the corns are yet to mature.

Take a look at the damages done here. These are corn that were grown with so much expense as diesel was being bought to power up the generator that pumped in water to wet the grain and grow them to this stage.

It's so sad that we have to be faced with this form of challenge over and over again. We just have to be more vigilant and keep the remaining portion of the corn safe until harvest day.
