A good number of them are still saving lives , nevertheless we lost a baby
At about 11pm I was rushed to the Accident and Emergency ward. Having stayed at home for 24hrs managing my health trying to avoid the occasion that will take me to hospital but eventually things got out of hand and I had no choice.
At this point I could barely walk,a wheel chair was used to meet me at the emergency entrance and in not less than 10minuites a doctor came to attend to me. 10mins is a long time to waste for someone in an emergency but my condition can wait, if it were to be an Accidents, a life can be lost within that few mins when not attended to.
Although hospitals outside Nigeria attends to emergency cases almost immediately, having that here is not feasible yet, it wasn't the doctors fault, there were only few hands on duty and the workload was too much on him already. This time frame can be shorten if we have more working hands in our various hospitals.
At that time of the Night a government hospital lacked some of the emergency injections and drugs I needed. He was the kindest doctor I ever meet, having noticed this challenge he went round the hospital borrowing drugs, injections, hand gloves, cotton wool and others. That was my miracle that night, the doctor, patient and nurses were kind to me commenced my treatment immediately even without the deposit of any funds. I have no hospital card and no means of paying deposit that night, some hospitals won't attend to you until you make an initial deposit of that amount.
Can you imagine that within the space of 2 hrs, I had like 3 doctors managing me, some hospitals usually have very few hands on shift most especially at night, these ones showed sign of stress and the female doctor has been on 48hrs shift, sleeping and waking up in the hospital, I wonder how she managed to remain calm and attend to me properly.
The worst thing I did was self medication, having treated myself for 24hrs at home with different drugs and concortion, I thought that the doctor will be scold me for that but she didn't knowing fully well that emotional stress can add to my pains. I also didn't go for checkup for more than two years which was really bad of me .
She treated me first then scolded me on discharged day when I was fully okay.
That night I knew that we really do have good medical personnels in our hospital and some who value life above everything.
This happened in a public hospital
The negative hospital I had happened in a private hospitals.
I was admitted for only 8hrs,the doctor only did a surface treatment and discharge me. They have a small facility, you know all those doctors that run multiple jobs. He works in a government hospital and still owned this private facility, they recommended his hospital but I got the worst treatment there. Since they were short on bed space the slightly recovering patient is sent home immediately to create room for others . I went home only to be readmitted in another hospital where I received proper treatment for 7whole days .
In another encounter at that same hospital, we lost a baby. My elder sister went to the hospital for delivery, no doctor was on duty that night. The hospital owners and senior doctor was on duty in his government hospital office, hence a single nurse and cleaner were left to take care of both in and out patient. The nurse took a delivery of 4 babies that night, my sister gave birth at about 4am with the help of only the cleaner since the nurse was taking another delivery , she can't possible deliver two babies at the same time.
All went well until the doctor came in the morning for checkup, just like before he did a surface checking for mother and child, discharge them to go home by 8am.
Other hospitals would keep them observation for few days at least.
We were back home, baby developed complication that were to have been naturally detected in the hospital, but was not, taking him back, the same doctor wrote a prescription.
It was an outdated drug and no longer in use, how can the doctor not know this or be up to date, while going from pharmacy to store we spend the whole day searching town and couldn't get, before returning to another hospital, I watch the baby die in my arms🥲🥲.
It was then we got attended to in another hospital where the doctor indicated that the drug is no longer in circulation giving us an alternative drug which wasn't useful anymore.
To cut the long story short.
We still have both good and bad doctors out there, now you know of current doctors and those who are obsolete. Hospitals that have facilities and more working hands in contrast to those that have not, all of these are the good and bad experiences you will find in Our Nigerian Hospital System.

God! I am so sorry for your sister's baby. Some people are not fit to be called doctors at all. Some of the private hospitals are the ones having this bad doctors and lack of hands to attend to patients. On your end, I am glad you went to a nice hospital where you were given proper attention.
Private hospitals care more about their money in most places.
While the government ones lacked more staff, the government is not willing to employ more hands and pay more money, hence they strain the fees ones employed .
Thanks for your kind words dear.
