Eating Together As A Family
Times and seasons are just like flash of light, one minute you are young another minute you are a grown up. This life is a mystery, only the Divine understands how He is ruling it.
Remembering the good old days now and I'm like how did we all grow up so fast that we are now scattered all around and not together again under one roof. Eating together has been an old family tradition that anyone who is privileged to experience will know how priceless they are.
Though my Dad wasn't always around while eating dinner during week days because of the nature of his work. But myself, siblings and Mom had been close pals since inception. We do most things together at home while growing up this made the bond between us to be strong even up till this moment.
However during weekends, Dad doesn't miss dinner time because he counted it as the time he will use to speak to us, share all our experiences and difficulties and also make corrections of our wrong doings during the weekdays.
It's also the time where he will divide his food into smaller portions at the corner of his plate for us to choose our choice, it's fun and I missed the good old days.
But the parents in the world today don't know the essence of family time let alone eating together. Parents are now so engrossed with making ends meet and providing comfort for their family at the expense of their family time which they don't know is a great error.
They are so engaged in their works or businesses and leave their children to the care of nannies all in the name of making money. There are some children that don't even know their parents, some fathers or mothers aren't available at all and if some are unlucky it will be both parents that aren't available for anything in their lives.
They believe once they can provide what the child needs, that's okay for the upkeep, they didn't know that part of parenting is bonding and it can be achieved through eating together. It is a meaningful moment that a child will cherish for life.
Though my parents don't eat in the same plate, but we eat at the same time on the dinning table. Mom and Dad use the opportunity to correct the size of morsel we eat at a time...African Mothers especially 🤣, how to eat and not make the plate irritating for the person that will wash it later and a whole lot of talking on habits that I will forever cherish in my heart.
I missed those good old days where we share our ups and downs at the dinner and also make fun of ourselves, who born you to eat from your laps when the dinning table is there or use a stool to eat..... I miss those days😂.
The last time we had a complete family meal time was during the Easter celebration in April, where everyone of us travel back home for the festive season. It was a fun moment and God's willing I will also be back home in a couple of weeks for the seasonal holiday. I know one of the days, we would be complete at home to have a nice meal time.
I love this tradition a lot and by God's grace once I'm married, it's one of my to-do list and I will make sure to be faithful in it so as to strengthen the bond between myself, hubby and children.
Thanks for visiting my blog!
The most embarrassing moments are when we watch our parents correct our siblings while eating, probably because their mouth is making too much noise or any table manners issue. You will see the way their eyes will roll over everyone on the table with Shame 😅
Lolzzz, hahaha I get that😂😂😂😂. And you will also be very careful not to do the same thing so that mama won't give you too your own. Those days are damn good
Exactly, I gotta maintain my steeze 🤣
Family meal times truly hold special memories, and it's sad how fast things change as we grow older. I could feel the love and warmth in your story especially the part where your dad divides his food for everyone to pick from. So precious.
That act alone makes us look forward to his weekend meals😂😂😂. Thanks for visiting
As child who will want to grow up? But like you said “time and season”. Its crazy how this life works but on God knows it all as the creator.
The mystery to life and living is so huge. But thanks to God for family togetherness. The everlasting memories that will linger in us all our years.
