Benefits of cultivating the habit of recycling
Recycling is the practice of sorting and collecting waste materials for new use. The greatest way each and everyone of us in the world today can make our environment a better place to be so as not to experience any health related issue is to cultivate the habit of Recycling.
Recycling can benefit our communities, the economy and the society at large. Beyond doubt, practicing recycling is one of the best thing we all can do to help ourselves so as to live long in wellness.
- Environmental benefits of recycling
Recycling helps to reduce waste sent to incinerators and landfills. Some areas here in Nigeria are more populated than the other which led to pollution of all kinds because a greater number of people migrated to such areas so the best way to lessen environmental pollution and outbreak of different forms of diseases in such crowded areas is for recycling to be implemented.
Many of the materials that humans use daily for their convenience are both biodegradable and non-biodegradable materials. But almost all our attention is on biodegradable materials because they can be easily decomposed by biological activities and converted to manures for agricultural purposes.
While we all neglected non-biodegradable waste and allowed it to litter our environment and this is the major cause of sicknesses and diseases in the society today. For instance, plastics, cans and polythene bags are the popular wastes that litters around in almost all areas in Nigeria and they can breed mosquitoes if stagnant water stores in them.
But by recycling all these non-biodegradable waste, there will be a reduction of waste both on land and in water and pollution will be gradually eradicated. Therefore, by recycling all our materials, the world will be a healthier place for us and our future generations.
- Economical benefits of recycling
Both government and private individuals are now into recycling business and this has fetched them a lot of money. Lots of people are now employed in recycling and waste management companies thereby reducing the rate of unemployment in the society. When people have jobs to do and they get paid, there will be in flow of money within the system.
Recently, waste materials are now weighed at some point in my area in exchange for money, I know of a time when a particular bottling company employed some people and their task on a daily basis is for them to help the company retrieve certain numbers of their company's used bottles in the society.
During that period, a lot of people used all seriousness in them for the job and it was a gain for both the company and those that were employed for the task.
As Nigerians, we all need to embrace recycling so as for our environment to be a better place. There are a whole lot of benefits that are attached to this recycling and we must all cultivate this habit so as to have a serene environment and build a sustainable future.
