Moin is reporting. Since AI technology's birth, blogging has been dying slowly and now you can see the huge impact of AI technology on news blogging too. Between October and December 2024, over 160 websites pertaining to consumer technology, local and national news, and shopping blogs were examined. The research claims that in the fourth quarter of 2024, businesses such as OpenAI, Perplexity, and Meta scraped webpages two million times.

AI-powered search tools are increasingly causing massive losses for digital news platforms that depend on search engine traffic. The way we look for information online has been totally transformed by AI search engines like Google, Perplexity, and OpenAI. According to a recent study by the content licensing platform TollBit, blogs and news websites receive 96% fewer visits from AI search engines than from conventional Google searches.

An increase in website data scraping

In order to train their AI models, tech companies are increasingly using data scraping, or the covert collection of data from websites, according to this report. According to TollBit, between October and December 2024, over 160 websites pertaining to consumer technology, local and national news, and shopping blogs were examined. The research claims that in the fourth quarter of 2024, businesses such as OpenAI, Perplexity, and Meta scraped websites two million (20 lakh) times. On average, each webpage was scraped seven times.

Owners of websites are not aware

Because AI businesses do not disclose the true name of their bots, developers utilize web crawlers or AI bots to gather data from websites, but publishers and website owners are frequently unaware of this data access. Perplexity's AI bots collected data from one publisher's website 500 times, according to TollBit, but only generated 10,000 referral traffic. This AI search startup has already been charged with violating robots.txt regulations and unlawfully stealing website data.

AI search causes a sharp decline in website traffic

In the past, firms like OpenAI and Perplexity asserted that their AI-powered search engines would increase website traffic and open up new revenue streams for publishers. But according to a Gartner report, AI chatbots and virtual agents will cause a 25% drop in search traffic to websites by 2026.

Chegg, an American edtech business, recently filed a lawsuit against Google. Chegg says its website traffic has suffered as a result of Google's AI-generated search summaries. In January 2025, Chegg's search traffic dropped 49%, while in the second quarter of 2024, when Google introduced AI overviews, it only dropped 8%.

There can be a good discussion regarding this topic in the comment section and the topic is "Will AI impact hive blogging?" Let's discuss it because it is the question of our future and the topic is also the most important. Thank you so much and take care of yourself.
