The Boys Season 4 Episode 4 Mostly Spoiler Free Review
This series has really amped up year after year, consistently trying to top itself in how extreme, how gory, how weird and even how sexual it's going to do. Its original material is a parody for Comic books from DC and Marvel, the show does that and also provides satire and political commentary that tend to almost mirror current events.
Homelander, a character partially based on the all powerful Superman, is a character who we have seen do more and more despicable acts as time goes on. We also see him consistently align himself with people who are either as evil or even worse than he is. This season this has been a theme, as in previous episodes, he lamented the lack of backbone in the people around him.
His ever suffering assistant Ashley has learned the hard way to not go against the grain yet somehow Homelander expects people to stand up to him and tell him he’s wrong. Other members of the Seven such as the Deep and A-Train are equally far to compliant, especially considering they do have powers, yet they have been manipulated and bullied time and time again only to find themselves back under Homelanders watchful eye.
I think the damaged psyche of Homelander is what is being explored more this season, this 4th episode of season 4 is really able to highlight that. He enlists another superhero who is the smartest person in the world, Sister Sage, as someone who could be there to tell him he is wrong so that he can avoid mistakes of the past. We see him struggle a bit with this but seems to come around when reminded that this was his idea.
We also see Homelander go back to where he was raised, a lab. He was kept there from his birth as he was potentially too dangerous to be raised anywhere else. He was also there to be tested for his abilities. What could he withstand? How in-vulnerable is he, these types of tests were run. Some of them, we find were possibly quite cruel. Anyone who has watched the show knows that Homelander is a extremely vengeful person and I won't go any further as the show speaks for itself.
Episode 4 of the new season features some wild sex, some intense action, and some moments. It was probably one of the darker episodes and more violent, although there is some logic to the dark things that happen, there is a more extreme edge to the events.
I like this kind of comedies, I hope to see it, they remind me a lot of Scary movie, I hope to see it soon.
