Snowflakes Macro
Some of the hardest to get yet infinitely rewarding shots are ones like these, trying to capture an individual snowflake. I have seen many techniques, using a wool glove to catch them as they fall. Scooping up some with wool, moving some to a dark surface where they can appear more prominently. Or finding them as they fall onto a surface where there hasn't been much accumulation yet. All of these methods are worth trying because there will be a ton of trial and error. Perhaps you'll get lucky and everything will land perfectly to get a nice shot. I noticed in my earliest attempts the way the stacked flakes fell, almost like solid stars falling and coming in at different angles. This helped me spot the individual ones and try to get different perspectives. I think this is one type of photography I might never perfect, but that's ok, as I enjoy the results, and I'm going to keep trying.
