Monomad: Northern Flicker Woodpecker

I feel fortunate to have had these Northern Flickers residing near my building for the past several years. I believe there is a nesting pair due to their multi year presence in pretty much the same spots I typically find them in. I will often hear them hammering away on trees or telephone poles. I also hear the distinct, high-pitched, almost squeak like call that they make, and the sound will get me reaching for my camera because I find their will be one coming onto the lawn to look for its next meal. Their are then only woodpeckers that will actually feed on the ground which makes it much easier for me to get some good close ups.

Beautiful photographs. I've always found it tricky to take pictures of birds, but these are certainly lovely!

Thank you, I know they can be a challenge but well worth it when it works out.
