Big Horn Sheep at the Calgary Zoo

In the spring and summer months the Big Horn Sheep will have brown fur to blend into the landscape; in the winter they will turn white to match the snowy landscapes that they inhabit. They are in tune with their surroundings but also have large distinct horns atop their heads that help them survive. Both as a defensive mechanism and also a tool to help them forage through dense snow and plant life for food. The males' horns are much larger, and they will use them to fight with other rams during mating season.
