This is a loose translation.

The venerable shared an important lesson about reciting the Buddha’s name.

He said if you made the aspirations to recite Buddha Amithaba’s name to be reborn in Buddha Amithaba’s pure land, all merits will end there when you are in the pureland.

But if you make the aspiration to reach Buddhahood as you recite the Buddha’s name, then the karmic conditions will propel you to further levels of spiritual development even after reaching the pure land.
