The Value Of Questions.
If you want some answers about life, you have to ask questions. There are certain things you will never understand until you ask questions; whether in school or in your career.
I'd share a bit of my highschool experience.
Back in the day, while I was in highschool, I found it difficult to understand mathematics. I was an average student when it came to maths. This wasn't because I was dull(by the way, no one is dull), but it was because I did not ask questions. Today, when I sat back and looked at the top students at the time; those who were good at the subject, I noticed one thing they shared in common-they ask questions(during and even after class). Some of them would go as far as meeting the teacher in his office, just to gain clarity on certain topics and equations.
Now you have seen the big difference between someone who asks questions and someone who doesn't ask questions.
John Maxwell, a leadership figure, said that “the value of question is that you only answer questions that you ask, so every time you are with a person and you don't ask questions, you're leaving something at the table because everyone has something to teach you”.
The truth is that you will always feel cheated when you don't ask questions. For instance, you're in a meeting or a lecture hall where strange things are being discussed(strange things in the context means things that are new to you) and you fail to ask questions when you're given the chance to, probably because you're shy or you do not what to appear like a fool, trust me, you will likely leave that meeting or lecture hall with regrets. I know this has somehow happened to you. It has happened to me too.
Here are other Value of Questions.
Asking questions builds your confidence.
Studies have shown that in a professional setting, employees who ask insightful questions are often seen as confident, competent and engaged. This confidence grows in asking questions. Each time a person asks a question, they take a social risk that builds their self assurance.
Asking questions gives you a sharp and clear focus.
This sharp focus which guides our decisions, emotions and actions by taking us out of the mental fog(that state of confusion and lack of clarity).
Asking questions helps you spend time on things that matter.
Instead of spending time on things that are less valuable, you will always spend time on things that are important and have higher return on investment because you have made enquiries on how to win in the journey of life.
questions, you are more likely to get vague answers. If you ask clear and specific questions, you are more likely to receive detailed and insightful answers.
I will give an instance…
If you ask someone about history, the person will definitely get confused, thereby giving a shallow and unclear answer while still confused on which aspect to focus on because history is broad, so telling someone to discuss history will only intensify the confusion. But if you clearly state what you want, let's say ‘the effects of the industrial revolution in 19th century Europe’, you will likely get a much richer and detailed answer.
Learn to ask questions because where you are now could be as a result of questions you have refused to ask.
