Making an Impact Without the Spotlight

Hi guys, do you love the spotlight? I don’t. When I was younger, every kid played ball, whether you were good at it or not, also, every kid claimed to be good at it, even the bad ones, until it got to the field, then the good ones became obvious and the bad ones too.

I was never really good or bad, some days my performance was great, other days I was shitty, I used to chose defense because it was hard to tell how bad one is when you’re a defender, all you had to do as a defender was steal balls, send every ball back to the mid field and pray no one disgraces your generation with some dribble.

As a defender you’re mostly also never really in the spotlight compared to strikers and midfielders, growing up I never liked the spotlight, there was one time I scored a goal from midfield, a lucky shot, a rare goal, the type that made every body pause for seconds before they burst out in loud roars and cheers in celebration, so lucky that people didn’t believe it came from me.

But you know what, I loved the disbelief from peoples faces more than the recognition itself. I was never exceptional but I was better than many, there was a unique touch to my style that always made it seem like I had it all together even when I didn’t, only if people knew.

In the last company I worked I realized that I’m very much okay with being the behind the scenes guy, I worked closely with my boss as the graphic designer, I gave him many ideas that spurred creativity, somehow he understood me and never forced me to be in the spotlight but he was genuinely appreciative and that was good enough for me.

I have no desire to be recognized and I don’t know if it’s a good thing or a bad thing. I rather my impact be felt.

This inclination to stay behind the scenes has translated well into the way I interact on Hive. I enjoy supporting others’ posts, offering insights, and engaging with content across various topics. It’s here that I can be part of something larger without being the center of attention. My contributions help enrich the platform, supporting others as they grow their presence and refine their content.

Being part of Hive has allowed me to channel my quiet contributions into meaningful outcomes. It’s gratifying to see new creators thrive and the community flourish with the same kind of understated support that I valued in my professional life. Just like in sports and design, on Hive, I’m happy to play a role that might not always be in the foreground but is important to the game’s success.

In essence, my journey has taught me that the value of impact is not diminished by the absence of recognition. Whether on the field, in the studio, or within the Hive community, I thrive by contributing in ways that might not always be visible but are always valuable. This is where I've found my niche, my way to make a difference.
