Reminders of your travels

Travels, in any way we have experienced them, leave traces in us. They may be invisible to those who did not share the same journey with us, but impressions firmly take shape within us, like hot steel when it melts and takes its solid form in memories.

Feeling a different climate on our skin, inhaling smells that were once beyond our imagination, tasting exotic fruits that grew in a distant, foreign land, meeting new people, languages, habits, cuisine, architecture, or history is something that really stays with us for a long time, maybe forever.

Let me bring an example. My deceased uncle suffered from dementia in the last years of his life; he did not remember the events that had just happened the same day when I would talk to him, but it is interesting that he remembered the details of his travels from many years ago. He had a lot of albums full of photos from Cuba, Thailand, Kenya, Tunisia, Egypt... worlds so far away but carefully kept in his memory and in the photo albums on the shelves in his room. They surely left a huge impression on him that could not be erased.

I think you wouldn't disagree with me if I say that we collect experiences, emotions and moments from our trips, but souvenirs are also considered common items to take home. They do not have to be expensive or big. Lately we have been travelling light, ie with a backpack each of us. There is no room for extra souvenirs in this case, but some brochures or thin booklets with information about the place we have visited always find a place in my bag. Maps as well, and entrances to museums, churches, etc.

That is how a small collection of these brochures was made, without a real intention to make a collection of them. They just got larger in number over the years, although I was throwing away many of them before I realised they actually form a collection and a way to remember the places we have been to. So, this is a reduced collection of the brochures, but it still can represent some of the countries we have visited or at least passed through.

Hungary

Let's start from the roots of some of my ancestors... Budapest, Hungary. City maps and guides on what to visit, which bus to take, and where to park your vehicle. We found an underground parking by the river Danube, on the Pest side and from there walked through the centre, saw the most famous buildings, crossed the river walking on the Chain Bridge and strolled in the part of the city called Buda. It was summer, with quite high summer temperatures, but it is better to visit it when the weather is good than in the cold winter.

Each year, when we visit our families and go by car, we pass through and stop in France, Italy, Slovenia, and Croatia. One year we went through France and then Germany, Austria, Hungary... I don't have booklets from all the countries and cities we have been to, but just a small selection.

Germany

Italy

France

From our latest trip to Austria, I do have some booklets, but they are... somewhere... in a room where there is a lot of mess right now haha, wait, I have to find them. 😆 Here they are!

I have some hopes that some Hivers who also went there would like to participate in this topic and show us more brochures from this city. 😉

Austria

Another Hive meetup that happened in Poland, Kraków. A map and a booklet of a museum we have visited.

20250601_164138.jpg

Poland

These are not some remote countries for me haha, but they also count for this collection.

20250601_164227.jpg

Serbia

20250601_164209.jpg

Montenegro

The majority of the booklets, brochures, tickets and maps are from the country where we live, Spain. I can't complain, we have seen a nice number of places, but still there are soooooooooooooo many regions and cities we would like to see. I don't know... my husband was mentioning lately a camper or a van where people who like to travel could do it without the need to rent accommodation each time. It would be cool to see more of Spain and get this collection even larger with additional brochures. 😉

So, June is here, our new monthly theme in the Hive Collectors community is also revealing itself...

Brochures/maps/booklets/flyers/tickets from your travels!

Some of us had a collection of shoes in the previous month - it is time to see where they have travelled! 😇

This is a nice theme! It seems like you've been traveling a lot, and you have a nice collection. We also travel frequently, but I’m not sure if we’ve kept any souvenirs. Often, after a while, we end up throwing things away when we clean the house. If there are any items left, I should check our bookshelves. If I find something, I will post about it. Wishing you a wonderful Sunday evening and a happy June ahead! :)

Like me, I was also throwing away while cleaning, but then these booklets screamed for mercy and to stay hahaha. I am looking forward to seeing your collection if you find something, I know you are also travelling and to more interesting places than me, so fingers crossed you can participate in this theme. Thank you, @hindavi and a nice June to you too! 😇

Wow, this will be an interesting topic for preparation.
It's a long June, but I have to speed up, I have to look for those little things that haven't been thrown away and remember those trips.
When I see how many travel brochures you have, and you moved last year, it's clear that the boxes were full 🙂

Hahaha, the moving adventure indeed was a bit heavy, literally 😂

(but also, I have thrown away many unnecessary things, and now I am going through a cleaning action again - second round 😂 )

Before throwing away, check twice, so that something valuable does not end up in the garbage 🙂

Hahaha, it sounds like you are talking from experience lol

Well, once we thought that we had thrown away our son's high school diploma 😱 (actually the first 4 mandatory years, as the last two years are optional, it is 6 years of high school here)
It went missing for months, maybe more - until I found it among other papers last year 🤓

Btw, the Gospa od Škrpjela booklet will never end up in the garbage. It is really nice book, and it came with us to Spain many years ago 😉

We should sacrifice some space in the house or apartment and set aside one box in which we should place all those little things, which have no value, but which, in an instant (as demented persons), can remind us of some events, persons and some places.

You are right. Although during the move, I moved almost all the important little things, still a lot of little things (memories) ended up in the trash. or it's there somewhere, but buried. I just don't remember what's missing 🤣

Those booklets that connect us to wonderful trips should be kept like postcards. I have pictures of this beautiful place in the Bay of Kotor in my phone 🙂

Oops... I thought the June collection was of the pictures I had at home... on the walls... and now? Is it possible?

I've hardly ever travelled in my life... when I was in Argentina, I never travelled, nor went on holiday... I only know my friend's village and the airport in the capital... I know it because I went there to come to Spain. Here... I've been here for almost 7 years now, the expectations were very high, I haven't achieved everything I wanted, so the trips will come later, when I manage to stabilize several things. I can come with my paintings? hahaha.

The pictures were not the monthly theme, it just came as a free-theme collection with the invitation for others too, at any time, not set for a particular month 😉 so of course you can come with the pictures of your paintings, it will be a pleasure to see them. 😇

Btw, anyone can post a collection thing not related to the monthly theme, they are here just a suggestion/invitation.

Yes, I know that last one, but sometimes I think that what I have is not a collection hahaha.

Ok so you will see the pictures I have painted, before fixing the style that I have been exhibiting in Hive.... plus others that decorate my house hahaha Thanks!!!

It's incredible how small objects can activate so much in our memories from passed journeys, it's like it's the key of a room we have in there closed and storaging a bunch of memories if a trip that only come out when we find ourselves in front of the object and we say...

Ohh look this is from Italy 3 years ago, remember this and that and etc?
Shame I haven't traveled too much to have these memories carriers to share
Thanks for sharing some of yours.

Hm, the keys to a room where memories are stored - that's cool to think about them like this. ;)
It is not the quantity one has travelled, but any reminder (a ticket to a concert maybe? Or a sports event where you went... ? That could also work for the topic, I am just saying, of course, no pressure haha

Thank you 😇

Yeah, I know, hahaha, no pressure at all, I'll look into the things I use to keep. I'm a keeper of unimaginable things that has no use but memories storage.

My last collection were fridge magnets,😁 I had many of each Mexico City I visited. But with my move to Spain those magnets were inherited by my daughter!
My next collection will be like yours, because I want to visit all Europe. 🙏🏻✨

Good evening @mipiano, a very well presented collection. A collection of good times shared with the people you love. I don't keep many travel souvenirs, so I think I'll venture out with a new 2 x1 (or something similar).

Thank you so much for sharing all these memories.

Best regards.

Good evening @enraizar :)

Thank you, it was a bit challenging how to present all from Spain haha, so they ended up on the floor

Your 2 x 1 are very welcome :)

No tendrás algún ticket del tren cuando viajaste a Z, o algo así? Podría servir, solo digo 😉

Será un bonito 2 por 1

Oh no!!!

I always pick up brochures and leaflets from my travels because they are a good reference for writing my posts.... but... I bin them after I finish my post. I'm very behind with my travel posts, hopefully I will still have some around.

It's just like that. I remember every moment spent on a trip. The last time I went to the Northern Areas was five years ago, but even today I remember all that time. I had a lot of fun with friends and family.

I was moved by the story of your uncle, no doubt those trips and those experiences left a huge and indelible mark on his being and here is the clear example that no one takes the material to the other plane, only the memories and experiences lived ❤️

I am an owl who has never traveled 🦉 not even out of the province where I live haha so this month I will look for another collection to share, maybe I will invent a trip 🦉

Happy start to the week with a great theme!

🙃 So, see you soon in a camper, sounds like a good plan from your husband. It's like having another house, but more adventurous. ✨

Awesome theme @mipiano! You are for sure well-travelled, with wonderful memories.
When I started sorting through photos, memorabilia, etc, I stupidly threw out a lot of brochures from places we've been to😢 I'm still sorting, hopefully there are still some of the special destinations.
