Paths around the Pedrera Water Reservoir

Welcome to the past!

This sign could undoubtedly send us that message.

To the eighties, to be exact, so we only have to go back in time about forty years to be able to participate in this Wednesday Walk.

Oh, we need the location too, so observing the photo, we could draw the conclusion that we are in a desert... or in an abandoned place, probably isolated from civilisation and that we could die in a few days if we didn't find fresh water or food. Just the letter and the numbers on the concrete road sign could help us locate the place and call for help... almost, as this road doesn't exist anymore. 😂

20250618_115712.jpg

We need to take a distance from it and search for more clues.

Ok, the ruined road can still be seen, the one that officially doesn't exist anymore since 1980, although there are still parts of it where the asphalt was not destroyed completely.

20250618_115649.jpg

20250618_115622.jpg

However, it only gives false hopes because after a few bends, the asphalt also ceases to exist. More precisely, it turns into a dirt road, and if you dare to pass these prohibition signs, where you are warned that this road is not safe and leads nowhere, you will drive directly into water. Into the Pedrera Water Reservoir.

20250618_115458.jpg

There are paths that are not safe to use!

That is why it is better to use just our feet to circulate here, be careful while exploring the surroundings and find some shade. Hmm... at this moment, it seemed like a failed mission; no tall trees on the horizon that could provide shelter.

20250618_115420.jpg

Some taller bushes could maybe serve to find some shade, but we will see that part later. I wanted to present you this place that looks like a desert, with dirt roads, sand, clay and rocks, with very little vegetation, but guess what!?! The lizards like this climate!

20250618_114154.jpg

I saw again the same type of lizard that I had already seen while walking around the Crevillente Water Reservoir. And once again, it didn't want to wait for me to take a photo of it. 😂

20250618_115852.jpg

The other interesting feature about this place is the contrast between the dry surface and the quite big water reservoir. Its capacity is 246 hm³ of water and serves for irrigation.

20250618_115248.jpg

20250618_121846.jpg

As it was noon when I walked here (I know, it should be forbidden to walk in the sun at that time as heatstroke is granted), in the end I had to find a "shelter". The chilling time happened under the few trees I found and bushes, but it was ok, I was even responding to some comments on Hive through my phone while chilling in the shade, on the purple Milka blanket that I usually have in the car.

20250618_101842.jpg

This Hiver never goes unprepared for these adventures - it means that I also had a swimsuit!
Oh well, we planned to go to a beach later, so of course I had a swimsuit, not really because I was so smart to have it just in case 😂.

The water was good, not too warm and not too cold. A recommendation if you decide to swim in a man-made lake like this one - it is better to have a pair of beach shoes or similar footwear suitable for water, as coming out of the water could be challenging on the slippery clay. Of course that I also had those with me. 😉

20250618_114538.jpg

20250618_111204.jpg

When the walk, chilling time and bathing here were finished, walking all the way up to the road was still waiting for me, passing again by the old road sign. What could it say to us now, at the end of this post?

20250618_115508.jpg

Congratulations, you survived this desert adventure.

Greetings 🤗
I was reading and imagined the walk like a sauna. Then the rewards arrived of fresh water.
...that you have to be a lizard to live well in those places ...

Hey there, @saraleo 🤗

Me alegro verte 😇 He leído sobre tu paseo en el parque Lennon... quiero decir en Trípoli, so why not walking in a sauna as well? 😁

Lizards - I will have to learn from them how to survive the Spanish summer 😆

What a great adventure!!! You're always ready, that's the way to do it... even though there are very few trees. But lizards are so elusive that they don't let you photograph them, mine don't either.

A beautiful trip to the past and to the desert, and the reservoir is great, an oasis in the middle of such a dry environment!

An oasis in the middle of nowhere, and a dry environment, you are right. Hahaha, so you have the same issue with the lizards - they are hiding from Hive, I think they just don't know they would have fun coming here. 😁

They would be famous!!! I should talk to them... therapy!

Despite the fact that the place has its charm. You were prepared but careful the reservoirs are usually very deep and being populated with unknown species.
The best thing was that I sisfrutas.
A friendly hug. 🥰❤️❤️❤️

Yes, I enjoyed the whole day; I had energy and a good mood at that place, and later we went to the beach, which was so nice too. Thank you @mamani, a hug to you too, and I hope you are well in health and the days are not so hot at your place. 🍀

I had a cap, but anyway, it was better to find a bit of shade and use the freshness of the water.

Hi Mipiano!! Incredibly, that old road is better than the one that leads to my mom's house 🤣. We were there a few days ago and almost couldn't get there 🥴.

Isn't swimming in that reservoir prohibited? I remember it was in Crevillente. It feels really refreshing after walking under that radiant sun. Un abrazo 🤗

Hi @mdrguez 😃

What? This road is better than the one that leads to your mom's house? Well, rural experience then, which has its charm too!! 😁 ( I am joking of course, I hope that road that leads to your mom's place will be better one day 🤞)

Btw, this water reservoir was created in the year I was born, and that is why the road was also cut off; it was flooded. There were no signs that bathing or swimming is prohibited (maybe I just didn't see it haha) and you remember well that in Crevillente it is not allowed.

I hope that road that leads to your mom's place will be better one day 🤞)

I hope so too because it gets harder and harder to get there. Poor Subaru Vivio, suffered the whole way (hasta maldijo en japonés 🤣). El polakito sí que aguantaba estoicamente 😆😂. Otro abrazo.

Subaru cars are good and powerful; if it was suffering, then it is indeed a challenging road. Polakito - they were built to survive many difficulties haha

Good morning @mipiano. I wondered when I started reading where you were going? It didn't strike me as a good place to walk in the summer. Well, maybe it's a good place for lizards. However, when I finished reading the post I have said to myself, a great walk with a great ending: a quiet place with shade and an artificial lake with the water at a nice temperature.

Very big greetings, hope you have a great day.

Good morning @enraizar. Your question was right haha, where was I going?? In the middle of summer, in a place that looks perfect to shoot a Western Movie 😂

Thank you and I wish you the same.

Cómo vas con el libro? 😂

I started writing the book... but it made me cranky 😱 , so I'll keep writing in Hive, which is more fun. 😜

Is there also lizards near the lakeshore? It would thrilling to see them swimming. It's fun when you witness it in person. Haha. Anyway, if permitted, I would have swim in that lake, too. It's so clear and not crowded like other beaches. You could have as much fun as you want.

There is one indigenous species that lives in this region... they don't swim, but they like this rocky soil and sparse vegetation. I don't think that many people like to swim here; everyone prefers the sea, which is not so far away from here, so they opt for that.

😄 I felt safe walking here with you. The things you discover are really fascinating. And why are the waters over there always turquoise? Are you modelling again or getting ready for a shoe model audition?

I am glad you felt safe here by this turquoise water. Why do they have that colour? I have no clue, the only explanation is that nature knows that I like that nuance of the blue, so it makes the water become turquoise when I go there.😂 Just a joke.

The shoes are maybe for the collection, as I didn't upload a photo of these sneakers then 😆

What a beautiful adventure you had! It’s like you traveled back in time while walking through a place full of history and nature. It was such a delightful read!
Above all, your descriptions were so detailed i could almost feel the heat of the sun and the coolness of the water in the reservoir. Thank you for sharing this experience!
