In peace

It was Wednesday, exactly a week ago. I had planned to visit my aunt who lives in another city, but my husband had not been feeling well for several days, so I took him to the emergency room that morning because his condition was not improving. The trip was cancelled, and fortunately, my husband showed some improvement after receiving the treatment. I then went to my parents' house for a little while to inform them of the situation and to make plans for the afternoon.
On my way to them, I passed a cemetery. It is the Catholic cemetery of this town, as I believe it is officially called, but we often refer to it simply as the small, or lower cemetery. There is another cemetery, the large municipal cemetery, which I visited with my mom that same afternoon to visit the graves of my grandparents and great-grandparents, and to clean them and work around them.
I couldn't resist the temptation when I passed this place - I got off my bike and pushed it into the cemetery. From there, I walked among the graves.

Despite the fact that this cemetery is small, it has two chapels with crypts in their basements, and a church with two towers located across the road from the cemetery. That is, there is a road that you have to cross, so it is not an integral part of the cemetery, but without a doubt, the church was built right there because of the proximity of the cemetery.

People usually call it just the church with two towers, but its name is Church of the Heart of Jesus, built in the 1930s. My grandmother used to talk about it when I was little. Social, cultural and religious life in those years was diverse and firmly rooted in families.

This cemetery was maintained and actively used for burials until about the middle of the last century, until changes in the population of this city occurred during World War II. Unfortunately, most German families left these areas, many not of their own free will.

I think the cemetery has started to be used again for burials when the German families left, mainly for members of the Gypsy community. Still, the majority of graves are from that remote past, written in German. The most dates I saw were dating back to the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.

Since there aren't many descendants of these souls buried here in these areas, and there is no one to maintain the graves, this cemetery seems a bit neglected, abandoned.

In some parts, it is so neglected that, if you don't know where you are, you would hardly even realise you are in a cemetery. Tall grass and bushes are growing, or should I say, just some graves are growing among the grass?

That is how it seems... but still, I have found a lot of beauty in this part of the cemetery. So serene and calm, I hope the souls here rest in peace and balance with nature.

I'm so sorry about what happened to your husband's health. I hope he's okay after reading this comment.
I'm so glad you're riding your bike to visit this place. I love the old churches and the inscriptions on the cemeteries.
There's so much peace in this place. The latest photographs of the tombs emerging from the grass are beautiful.
Thank you so much, dear friend @mipiano, for sharing this Wednesday hike experience.
Yes, he is fine now, thank you.
I also liked that part of the cemetery where the grass is tall. Well, it would need to be maintained but on the other hand, it also had a charm 😉
those old graves could look good in B/W

Probably they would be cool 😎
Actually, I also thought about it, bringing them in B/W but I am not good at making monochrome compositions 😅
Love the church and funniest I you enough I shared a cemetery today
Hope your husbands health keeps improving
Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk
Have a great day
Hahaha, yes, after I published my post I saw your one. Cemetery walks today 😁
LOL :) have a good one
I love old cemeteries and you got some great pictures! What a shame it is to see so many grave markers in disrepair and overgrown. With old cemeteries it's all too common sadly. You took some great shots of that peaceful place, I always find cemeteries so quiet and calm.

Thank you
The sky that day was also amazing, the fluffy clouds acted as a contrasting element to the quietness of the earth and this cemetery.

Somehow cemeteries give a big feeling of calmness. For some people it could be a sad or creepy place but for me it's one of my favorite places to relax. There's no music, no traffic sounds, no noise; just silence. I like to wander around in cemeteries and watch the details carved in the graves' stone and contemplate the angel and woman statues. I have gone two times to the Colon's Cemetery, the huge one in Havana, and I like it a lot despite of how abandoned it is. At least you can see that nature has a place to grow in the city and it is there at the cementery, around most of the graves. It's nice to see like you say, because the souls balance with nature in peace.
I really liked your post :3, hope your husband fully recovers soon!
Thank you @anima-shot 😃
I am glad you also like cemeteries, and you are not scared of these places. My son also likes them, actually, when he was small, he would always spot a cemetery in a new village or city where we would pass, haha, I don't know why it was so interesting to him

We are already looking forward to reading more about your adventures!
Good afternoon, @mipiano. I don't know where to start this time. On the one hand, I find the church very beautiful with those two towers. It seemed like an ideal place to stroll and spend time alone; it exudes tranquility.
On the other hand, there's the mark of history and why nature has taken over the place. It comforts me to think that the souls who live there are now at peace.
I love the photo of the chapel's interior.
Happy Wednesday.
Good afternoon @enraizar. You are more than right, nature has taken over a place that once belonged to it, then humans used it for leaving a trace and giving honour to their family members, but still we are part of the same nature. It is a cycle. Thank you very much, you see, those are also parts of the puzzle 😋
Hi @mipiano, I don't think the puzzle will ever be complete. Although I like going piece by piece... little by little I'm getting a sense of the picture... and I'm starting to like it.
That is awesome, old weathered tired gravestones, beautiful german font, and a great back story. got to love a graveyard.
Hope Hubby is on the road to recovery
Yeah, the old German font, just that can already throw us back in time. Thanks, he got better in a few days :)
good good
Thanks thanks 😊
You're welcome
I completely agree with that last part of your writing, souls rest in peace and in the midst of nature.
I have always felt that cemeteries are places of peace, and here you can see that even though it is very neglected. Each grave tells a story of the distant past, of people who no longer have any relatives, perhaps forgotten, but not intentionally. I really like the photographs where the gravestones and tombs emerge from the grass, as you said.
Sometimes they are places of mystery, other times of pain, sorrow, suffering, but in this case, calm reigns. The church with the two towers is emblematic of the place and seems to rise up as a reminder of all those who are there. Cemeteries always have something special for me. I loved this Wednesday walk. A big hug!

I know that you also like cemeteries, as I do too. Not sure if it is the peace, or the wide space, or the stories of the people whose bodies are buried here... or simply the honour that we feel toward our ancestors, and we want to make their tombs nice... Everything. In this case, a whole part of the cemetery is abandoned as wars made families disappear, or simply the history brought these changes so there are no descendants who could fight for the tombs (as one person can not make here a huge change, it is the local authorities who should also help to clean the place from the grass etc...)
Thank you very much @avdesing 🤗 I saw you walked in a kind of a maze haha, which is very cool, Princess Amonet !!
You've read me a lot and I'm sure you know that I feel energies. The energies of a cemetery are special, there is rest and peace. My grandfather got me used to going to cemeteries when I was three years old and for me it's normal, I'm neither afraid nor impressed, on the contrary, there are souls there, in the air. There is no noise from the voices of the living, you can feel it with your heart. I know... I'm an alien, ha ha ha.
In those places, there are no longer bodies, only gravestones, but sometimes you feel the energies of those who were buried there, even though their souls are in the best place in the universe.
I am the princess of the labyrinths!!! Yes!
We will all end up in a place like this someday. We only pray to the good God to make us grow old.
For sure, we will. Although throughout history we know that many people didn't have the luck to have their own grave.
Wow, seriously??
It’s beautiful how you found stillness and connection in such a quiet place. Cemeteries may seem eerie to some, but they can be really grounding.
Yeah, they may seem an odd place to walk around, but no, those are places where our ancestors were buried.
It’s kind of fascinating how cemeteries can feel peaceful instead of scary. Even though it’s a bit overgrown, it’s like nature is taking care of the place in its own way.
Well, I would maybe not walk there at night, alone haha, but during the day I really like to visit cemeteries :)
Cemeteries can be super peaceful and beautiful during the day. There's something calming about walking through them and reflecting.
You have a good cemetery. Here in our place, it's just a tiny place where we take our loved ones to rest. It's just 6 feet below the ground and we visited then often to show our love even if they are no longer with us.
Fantastic reporting. Keep writing, I like this topic. I will become your follower.
