THE HIDDEN COST OF TECHNOLOGY

Hello everyone, today marks my second day of writing, and I would say I'm enjoying this, i never knew I could do this until I tried it, and I'm glad I did.

Well, today I think we should talk about 'TECHNOLOGY', the savior of mankind, or should we say the helper. With TECHNOLOGY, humans have achieved a lot. It has improved our way of living, and with numerous inventions, our lives have become easier.

The invention of cellphones made communication easier, Technology has also made medicine creation easier, and advancement in learning, by learning, I mean the education system has improved. Also, we shouldn't forget the business sector.

But, we are not here just to praise Technology, we should consider the downsides of technology as well, and that's what brought about the topic, 'THE HIDDEN COST OF TECHNOLOGY'. Technology, while being the best thing that has happened to humans, is also the worst.

Let's dive in. Talking about this and saying it's the worst doesn't necessarily mean it's not good, and we shouldn't use it, but just the fact that we shouldn't overdo it.

Humans' overreliance on cellphones and overuse of social media have reduced face-to-face interactions with one another, today you see kids using social media, and wasting time on it when they should be learning at that time of their lives, but we parents make the mistake of getting them cellphones or tablets and then they waste their time on it, and sometimes learn what they shouldn't have.

Families spend more time online, when they are supposed to bond physically with one another.

Now to what made me write this post, 'online dating' hmmm, writing about this and thinking about the scenario that made me do this, really breaks my heart a lot, before we start I should tell you that story, some might have heard about it while some haven't, I would make it short.

Back in 2022, there was a girl who met some guy online, and chatted with him a lot, up to the point of falling in love with him, the guy was handsome, she thought, and he was 20 yrs of age, so she felt safe, because he was still young and there was nothing he could do to her, she was 16.

But little did she know it was a man in his forties hiding behind the screen. He decided they should meet up on a particular day, and she agreed to it.

The day arrived she dressed up and told her mother she was going to church, as she was a church worker, then she left home, excited to meet her lover.

When she arrived at the location, she found out the guy she had been chatting with was a man, scared, she decided to run, but it was already too late as the man held her tight then dragged her to a secluded area, he murdered her for no reason,

A young innocent girl blinded by love, murdered in cold blood for no reason. After a while, the man was caught, turns out he was a serial killer, and was taken to jail.

Now the fact about this story is, this is not the first, second or third time this would happen, there are others we don't even know about, or some that did not even go viral, yes it's good to fall in love but doing this online is a bad thing, why not go out and meet new people, build up your confidence, get rejected then try again.

Another point about technology is, it has helped a lot in world destruction, the fact that bombs, destructive weapons, and lots more, are made, are putting our lives in danger, causing war between countries.

There isn't peace anywhere anymore, when we should live with one another in harmony, we only fight, wanting to prove who is stronger, which is very wrong.

Now the most important aspect that affects us the most, is that, it affects our mental health. Too much use of our devices, either for social media, gaming, or anything else, causes addiction, and when we get addicted it leads to poor sleep, lack of focus, and reduced productivity.

In conclusion, Technology is great, it helps us every time, even saves us sometimes, but let's not forget the downsides of it, let's reduce our dependence on it, and make use of our minds, boost our social interaction by meeting new people, I can proudly tell you we could do well if we just minimize the use. But don't get me wrong I'm not telling us not to use our cellphones or anything else, just the fact that we shouldn't depend too much on them.
