Beautiful things i love about my culture

Hello guys ,welcome to my blog and this is my first time that I would blogging in this great community.my name is Phina and I would be talking about my great culture today from the Tiv land in benue state ,I was born and brought up in benue state and as a child while growing up there I experienced a lot of good things which I will be sharing with you guys today .

:1:Religion:The Tiv people,we are the ethnic group in Nigeria, primarily found in benue state .our culture is rich and diverse, encompassing traditions, festivals, and beliefs passed down from generation to generation.
We are organized around kinship ties and communal living ,with agriculture being a central part of our livelihood.we also have our own language which is part of the benue Congo branch of the Niger Congo language.
Religious and beliefs:like many African societies,Christianity and Islam have also become prevalent among us .but the Christianity is more common in Tiv land .

2:marriage customs:before a woman moves into her husband house as a wife bride Weath (bride price )is paid by the groom’s family to the bride’s family symbolizing the transfer of rights and responsibilities.the times which are given by the groom’s family include ,drinks for the men(in-law)salt ,Maggie and soft drinks for the women and lastly is a very giant pig ,in the Tiv tradition a marriage is never complete without a pig been presented to the in-laws .

3 :farming :I can say we are one of the most hardworking people when it comes to farming,A tiv man would wake up early in the morning and first thing he does is to pick up his machete and hoe then head straight to the farm.farming is practice in every Tiv man’s life ,when it comes to fruit especially oranges and mango Tiv people have the best .we engage in farming to also sell out the items and make money .

4:clothing :the Tiv traditional attire includes a colorful woven fabrics which is black and white often worn by both men, women and children for beatification and identification.these garments adorned with intricate patterns and designs, representing the cultural identity and status of the person wearing it .

5:food:the Tiv people have different kind of local dishes that are being prepared occasionally or as the individual wants it .the “genger “soup is only prepared during the dry season.

6:unity :Tiv people are so united to the level that one does not eat in a separate plate .when food is served everybody is been called out to eat together even when someone is passing on the road a Tiv man must invite you to join him and if you refuse he or she might think you have grudges with them so nobody say No when you’re invited to eat .
I love my culture so much that anywhere I find myself I always speak well of my people and how welcoming they are when you visit.
Proudly a Tiv girl.
