Being A Stay-at-Home Wife
I was brought up in a home of professionals, and the people in my circle never spoke highly of a woman with a housewife title. Somehow, that mindset was stuck in my subconscious, and I aspired and worked full-time and part-time for most of my life. I enjoyed work-life, and more times than not, I took on job responsibilities that far exceeded my job duties, simply because I enjoyed pitching in here and there, and I have multiple skills that span across different sectors. I was exceptional working in front-of-house, and I equally thrive well in back-of-house situations, which was useful throughout the years.
However, being a Stay-at-Home wife in recent years, came about as a major paradigm shift in facilitating the nomadic lifestyle of my husband and I. Wherever possible, I would step into the role of Admin, Project Management, or sometimes, simply Home Management.
These days we've been in a bit of a limbo, but I continue to plough away at different projects, which fill my daily schedule to keep my mind active and to keep me abreast with the times. Staying relevant is important, especially in our silver years as we grow closer to the stipulated retirement age. I've encountered many women who decided to go back into employment, after being a housewife and growing kids, and for different reasons, they found themselves having to go back to working, mainly part-time jobs.
What I find is that when women return to employment, they have little confidence in their abilities, and struggle to fit into the demands of the workforce.
Despite being in limbo at the moment, having worked in several managerial roles, I still find myself breaking down home management duties in a professional format such as housekeeping, security, my admin and blogging, errand-runner and so on. Hive has changed the game for me completely as a Stay-at-Home mum and I am constantly learning through this platform, which I think is ideal.
My typical day varies according to the jobs at hand, and I am enjoying being fully responsible for how I spend my hours daily.
Other than that, I enjoy cooking and do it as a mindful activity, in a stress-free and enjoyable way.
Today I had spent most of the day doing some me-time activities including my weekly hair steam treatment, before spending the evening in the kitchen preparing some scrumptious Chicken Wings.
I like to experiment in the kitchen, and for meals that I cook regularly like chicken wings, I'm always experimenting and creating new recipes so that they are always different, but consistently mouth-watering and finger-licking good.
These extraordinary chicken wings...
...are herby and spicy, and recently, I have been adding rosemary to the mix. Rosemary is one of my favourite herbs, and I think it adds "pizzazz" to the chicken wings.
Here's my mad-sounding recipe that makes me want to eat the entire lot all at once:
When I'm cooking for people who are not too keen on garlic, I blanch them to reduce the pungent flavour.
- Blanch an entire garlic by separating the cloves and boiling them in hot water unpeeled for about 5 minutes. Leave it to cool.
Place the following in a bowl
- Grate the zest of 2 large lemons
- Chop a handful of fresh rosemary leaves into small pieces.
- salt and pepper to taste.
- Chop one red chilly pepper including seeds.
- Add some hot pepper sauce to taste. I add enough to make it so hot with the hope that no one will be able to eat it but me. Still, I haven't been lucky for that to happen as yet.
- Add 1 heaping tsp of Dijon Mustard
- Approximately 1/4 cup of Olive Oil or more.
- A dash of soy sauce
- A dash of Brown sauce (optional)
- A dash of Tomato Sauce
- 1 Tbsp each of a mixture of dried herbs from your cupboard (basil, thyme, Italian, and Herbs de Province are good choices).
- Add the garlic by crushing them in the mixture of herbs.
- Mix those all together
- Add salt and pepper to the chicken and place the chicken in a ziplock bag.
- Pour the mixture into the ziplock bag and massage the mixture in the bag, and seal.
💡Seasoning my meat in zip-lock bags and leaving them overnight, preferably, is a game changer.
Remove chicken from the fridge and leave to sit for a few minutes, and I first line the Pyrex dish with a layer of fresh whole rosemary leaves, before placing the wings on top
I then add another layer of whole fresh rosemary leaves on top. Just as seen here.
Cover and bake for 45 minutes at approximately 220°C... check and turn once and bake for another 15 to 30 minutes at a lower temp of 180°C.
While the chicken cooks, the house is filled with a beautiful aroma that puts you in a wonderful mood.
As Stay-at-Home mums, it's important to keep ourselves in a positive and progressive state of mind. It doesn't matter if we are cooking, gardening, cleaning, or blogging online, it's important to lift ourselves and to help to uplift other women who might be struggling to cope or adjust to new phases of their lives.
Let us not forget, there are also men, who sometimes find themselves with a status of a Stay-at-Home Husband.
People's circumstances change, and I think that transitioning can be easier if people are more open-minded, put the fun in mundane activities, and create the best of whatever life presents us, and how we go about our daily lives.
Thanks for stopping by peeps, for a glimpse into how I keep my mind positive, and most important, I do hope that you will try this recipe and share it with your partner. If chicken wings are not your thing, be sure to substitute it with your preferred meat or meat alternative. You might need to adjust the cooking time:)
Until next time,
All the images are mine.
Of course I open this post up when I'm hungry af. :D
Looks delicious.
Haha! I wish I had superpowers. I'd drop this right on your table 😆

Those chicken wings whet my appetite, 😋😋😋😋.
I'm glad to hear that.😊 They are irresistible even before they go in the oven 😆
Both me and hubby love chicken wings, they are quite underrated but very versatile. I haven't tried them with rosemary before, will give that a go !!
Oh, you MUST!!! The mustard adds something special to the taste:)))
I really like your optimism in life and your blogs are very empowering. As a very young person, I like to read your blog as a piece of advice and motivation on how to keep going in life. Thank you for writing and sharing valuable words in life.
Also, I like how you prepare your chicken wings. I think they are very satisfying.
Thank you very much 😊
I'm delighted that you find that value in my work, and yes, it's important to gravitate to things that make you feel great energy.
I appreciate you stopping by.
Have a lovely Friday and a fantastic weekend when it comes🤗
You are very welcome. I can't wait to read more of your blogs in the future. I am learning a lot from your experiences in life.

Never seen a prouder stay-at-home wife like you ma’am🥰🥰
You rock!
Thank you 😊
It took a few years of adjusting, and accepting, but I remind myself daily that nothing in life is constant and that changes come when we least expect it, so I use this time of my life in the most positive way possible because I'll never be able to re-live them 🤗
Let's not even think about a Stay-at-home-Man, which i'm am... 😬 The reputation is kinda mind blowing, an absolute No-No in the so civilised society.
Yeah, tell me about it!
It's not only society that's not so lenient. I've seen a duality in the attitudes of some women who have to step into being the front-runner, even if it's only temporary.
Still, I do hope that your daily life is filled with positivity and the flexibility to do things that bring happiness:)))
I think Rosemary is that final herb that adds all the spice and scent to a meal. I'm glad you incorporated that in this delicious looking chicken wings and yeah, Milly. My tummy just grumbled. Nice going there. Lol
Yeah, Rosemary is so versatile. I love it with my potatoes wedges with garlic too.
I wish I could share it with you 😁
I'm sure you wish to eat it all alone but I accept.😂
😆🤗
This is making me so hungry right now and would mind getting a small portion through my phone screen.
The housewife role is tedious than working even in some companies, combining different chores and still having the time to blog is extra ordinary to me. I know women on the platform combine so many duties and I call them super-woman.
You are doing a great job ma'am, I saw that dimple... Happy weekend.
Hehe! The chicken wings have a great rounded flavour because the seasoning absorbs better when left in the ziplock.
A housewife's job is hard because household work is endless, and if one is not careful they can lose balance. I think the emotional aspect of it oftentimes gets overlooked.
Thanks for the compliments and a lovely weekend to you too:)))
I must admit I stopped worrying about labels a long time ago, and I never saw what is wrong with being a housewife.
In fact having two working parents in my mind is not so good, but that is another story.
You are methodical and organised and whether you are the breadwinner the cook or the bottlewasher you will give your all.
The wings of chicken look mighty fine. Mustard is such an underused ingredient. Depending what I am cooking I will add Dijon mustard, or English mustard or even French's squeezy yellow American mustard!
Thankfully I have just eaten so was able to open your post safely"
Many thanks for posting again in Silver Bloggers @millycf1976 and have you and Cam a wonderful weekend.
That's very true, and also another story...
Thanks, you strike me as someone who is experimenting in the kitchen too, so I'd love to try your food and would have no hesitation in offering you some of mine.
Have a lovely weekend too:)))
Oh my I need some "Me Time" in the kitchen and make some chicken wings like you have showed. They look so good 😋
I can't imagine being a stay at home wife. Especially if you jump back and forth with employment. That in itself must be challenging. I hear a lot from others that have no choice to be full-time stay at home. Many want to work but due to kids it would cost more for child care than what jobs available pay. Your right though I think it's all about mindset and you have to seperate it sometimes and fit time for yourself.
Trust me, the chicken wings are awesome. You gotta give the recipe a try. I make them once a week, and it's always a pleasant meal (our version of a happy meal 😍).
I've been out all day today, which was good for me because it rained continuously the past few days and I was homebound.
The first few years of staying at home were a struggle, and I had to change my mindset gradually. Things are good now, and I'm happy that I'm adaptable to switch up as needed.
How's the weather where you are? I haven't followed the news, but I know many places have been faced with extreme conditions:)
Right now 117 Fahrenheit heat index 🥵 I had to work in it yesterday morning. I was sweat head to toes. It's made my body feel so tired that I don't want to do anything. A planless weekend but I'll make use of it safely while drinking plenty of water. Looks like the last day of extreme though suppose to be a cooler moving forward
Oh, dear! it must be miserable at that temperature, especially if it is humid, which it sounds like. I agree that you should listen to your body and do very little while you recuperate, and staying hydrated is crucial.
I have no plans for the weekend either, as I need to catch up on some sleep:)
These food items are really mouthwatering
Thanks, they were, indeed:)
Hello dear friend @millycf1976 good afternoon
It's good that you keep your mind active despite your role as a housewife, it's very important for your mental health to be busy, what you say about Hive is very true, you're constantly learning
I love this recipe, it looks so delicious.
enjoy the weekend
Hello @jlufer
Yes, it's crucial to keep the mind active, because we need human contact regardless of how well we can cope on our own.
Wishing you a lovely weekend:)))
Hi Milly!
Those chicken wings look exquisite, I love rosemary and for the ingredients in your recipe, they sure were as tasty as they look.
About being a stay-at-home wife - mum. I've been one for the last 10 years, with a few professional projects along the way. I left the corporate world when the crisis here made salaries ridiculous no matter what your job title was, and went to work with my husband who is a filmmaker doing executive production on a few projects. That also allowed me to enjoy a few years while my son was growing up and I was able to focus on being there for him, and if I look back that is the best thing I could have done. Now that we have an empty nest, I try to keep busy, and always with a positive mind as you say. And Hive has been a great help in these times in many ways.
I love to see you here in SB 😍 Have a nice weekend 🤗
Thanks for your lovely comment @coquicoin
I think it's about the same time that I've not been officially employed, but have been doing projects here and there. This has helped me to grow and experience life and people in a completely different way.
I think it worked out well for you and was the best thing for your son. Well done there 👏
I love what you all do in SB, and I appreciate the warm welcome.
If you have the time, pop on over to the Coffee Conversation tomorrow. It's been slow for a while, but things are better streamlined in the community, and I'm hoping that authors will take the time to comment:)))
It worked well for me and I have a beautiful bond with my son, and those years that I was able to be more with him in his activities were very important.
I will be sure to stop by the Coffee Conversation tomorrow:)
🤗☕️
😁🤗
Ok, see you:)))
With the stresses of work life sometimes, I am jealous of stay-at-home wife life. 😄 Maybe I just need a few days off from work. 😆 But I just remind myself to be thankful for everything. Yes, let's keep that positive and progressive state of mind. Life is good.
Yes, life is good. I do not miss the drama in the workplace, but being at home comes with it's own stress, so it's important to find a good balance:)
Thanks for stopping by, have a lovely weekend:)))
I read your recipe to my @pooky-jax We may try some wings on the pit boss wood pellet grill. It is very similar to a wood fired oven. And would rock that recipe with an added texture of smoky bourbon. My pellets of choice. Love me some garlic too. But not so much the 5 alarm fire with the hotness. A nice mild warmth to the lips is plenty. But not the burning and sweat on the brow. Yea yea, I know... "Wimpy" lol
P.S. I almost forgot to say..: The Java Monsters made a comeback over in the weekend-engagement community. 👀
That sounds so fuckin' awesome.
The weather has been shit here. I haven't seen so much rain and grey days in a long time. You would never believe it's July, so we only get in a few BBQs here and there. We have some lovely steak, and if we're lucky tonight we might start up a fire and do them on the grill.
I'm happy you came back with your writing.
I hope that you're well:)))
