Coffee: funny stories and an Italian Joke
If it weren't for the coffee, I'd have no identifiable personality whatsoever
-David Letterman-
Italian coffee it’s quite famous across the world and the best coffee in Italy can be drank in Naples. Or at least the story tells this.
Anyway, one of the absolutely best coffee that I still dream in my mind, was in Murcia (Spain) last year. Very close to the city centre there was this cafeteria, where the coffee was milled at the moment and I could choose the type of coffee and its origin together with the way I wanted the coffee served (short, long, Americano). I went for an Ethiopian coffee served in the Americano way as it’s definitely my favourite.

Across the years, while hanging out with Mary, the Americano coffee has always been a sort of ritual for me. Drinking a good long coffee is something much relaxing for me as it’s something I truly taste and makes me enjoying the place where I am drinking it.
Fun fact
Espresso in Italian has a double meaning: it both refers to the Espresso coffee but it is also an adjective standing for “express”, meaning “in a immediate and efficient way”. It has also a smaller third meaning as the Espresso was an ancient fast train.
According to the Italian language:
- Americano Espresso means that you are asking an Americano coffee made in a fast way.
- Espresso Americano does not mean anything
As some probably know, Italian language has sooooo many nuances that it’s very difficult for a foreigner to get to know all the subtle aspects of our language :D
End of the Fun fact.
Here is a picture where me and Mary were in Austria, Mieming in January 2019. In this image it’s me about 10 kilograms ago more, and with the Marine haircut.
In the following image, we were in a Café in the middle of nowhere BUT in an astonishing place in Germany very close to the border as we got there in some hours by car from Mieming.
The café was called “Mary” so we could not miss it! Before the Coffee, here was the view outside this Mary cafè.

I felt like hypnotized out there. So much silence, peace and the astonishing beauty of savage nature.
And here below, the coffee (ended), with Kaiserschmarren , a traditional dish from Austria and Germany made with flour, eggs and apples with some sugar on top. It’s served warm, sometimes with cream aside and it’s something delicious.
In the picture below, it was served with apple jam with some red-fruits topping on top
And here below I was having another coffee in Portugal with the “Pasteis de Belèm”, whick dear @galenkp I think we already talked about BUT if you drop by Portugal do not get satisfied with foreigners imitations and go in South Lisbon, close to the Belèm Tower and Monastero dos Jerónimos which are two very nice monuments to visit in Lisbon.
Even if in Portugal they had quite a different perspective on shots and quick drinks :D
Of course I tried the Ginja in the choco-cup and it tasted so good!
The last picture for this coffee trip is from Croatia 😉
Anyway, as any good coffee-taster I am drinking coffee with no sugar inside since 2008. But it was not a real natural choice. And I can’t stop laughing when thinking of it!
It was 2008, my first year of University in a College in Padua where there was a decent quantity of hazing. Meaning that floor's freshmen had to provide coffee and sugar for all the floor (about 25 people). It was not such an investment but rather a huge risk as if any freshman missed his delivery, the elder from the floor would have disassembled freshmen’s beds.
My turn came.
I bought coffee.
But I forgot sugar.
Anyway, I managed to save all the freshmen from the floor as I persuaded the elders that I missed the sugar as ti was for their health and I liked a lot drinking coffee with no sugar.
Of course the first could be trustable but the second it was totally false BUT I drank a coffee with no sugar in front of them wit a Poker face to hide the disgust I was feeling.

Here a meeting of all the people from the second floor. You can see me not really smiling in the third row :D
Still, since then, I am drinking coffee rigorously Americano, with no sugar :D
And I am now regularly drinking a Bullet Americano Coffee when starting my working morning!
Yay! 🤗
