A Peaceful Protest that Ended in Massacre

I was at home watching one of my best TV shows when my friend David walked in and showed me a video of a young guy who was harassed badly, because he dressed nice and perfectly, and they wanted to extort him by collecting his phone and money for no valuable reason. I asked my friend are these police not meant to be protecting us the citizens what is the point of having criminals like this as police? Then I went to my Twitter, and people started sharing so many videos of their experiences with this kind of encounter. This sparked so many people on Twitter, so we decided to start a peaceful protest to “End Sars”, a department under police.

These men move aggressively when they are on a mission, they treat everyone like criminals. Sometimes I wonder, is this person not meant to protect us from the criminal? The “Sars”, is a department in the police for anti-robbery, Theft and Kidnapping, but they work against us, any young man that dresses nice or looks good, they will think he is a Cyber thief, so they harras anyone of us, including ladies. I had also been a victim, but I succumbed easily because i was scared of my life.

The Peaceful Protest Started in Lekki, toll gate. The reason for the protest was that we the people had always been complaining to the government and Authorities about this harassment and brutality but no one responded, so some celebrities on Twitter then suggested people come together to start to give the government a physical notice of the pain we are going through which later ended in tragic experience. I have some personal images relating to this, but I deleted it because i was scared of my life.

The Tragic part of this story starts on October 8, when we notice there are a lot of police and soldiers' cars parked on the Other Side. I was at the back of the protest because I often get hungry and want to buy things to eat. It was getting late and more and more solder vehicles were coming. When it was 8 pm in the evening, I guess there was an argument between a protester and a police or there was an authory from above, no one knows, then they started Shooting at everyone there, This was one of the most deadly expert I have ever experience in my life time, everyone ran without even feeling their feet on the ground. I ran that I forgot my friends was there. This was a experience I don't wish to ever encounter again. Am sure if we ever wish to protest over anything now, it will be very serious.

A lot of people were hospitalized and government did not even bother to pay their medical bills. All pictures and videos on the internet was traced and people are even scared to upload videos about it. The place of the riot happened close to a lagoon, and overnight all the people that were killed were packed and thrown into the lagoon without any traces over there. “What a Nation”, Even the so called Normal police harrass and extorcate every young people in this nation. Sometimes I wish I was born in a country more developed and less corrupt country. “We will Never Forget What they Did to our Brothers and Sisters”.
