The light and the shadow

Margot and Vênus, our two little dogs. I think one is completely the opposite of the other in many ways. Margot, the caramel-colored one, loves the sun, other dogs, and, believe it or not, taking baths. Vênus, the little black one, is the exact opposite: she hates baths, hates other dogs, and can’t stand being in the sun.

What Vênus really loves are people and affection. If you come over to our house, she’ll greet you with a shower of licks. She makes friends very easily with anyone. Margot, on the other hand, doesn’t. She’ll probably try to take a bite out of you.

These photos I took yesterday capture that difference well: Margot enjoying the morning sun. Even a small strip of light is enough to warm her little paws. She has already mapped out the sun’s path through the rooms of the house and will always be there, waiting for the warmth.

Vênus, on the contrary, stays far from the sun. And it makes sense: since her fur is dark and absorbs more heat, she gets uncomfortable very quickly. Within just a few minutes she’s already panting, trying to release the excess body heat.

Vênus is funny and clumsy. Margot commands respect and communicates very well. They are opposites and it’s such a joy to have them both around!

Margot e Vênus, nossas duas cachorrinhas. Acho que uma é totalmente o oposto da outra em muitos aspectos. Margot, a caramelo, gosta de sol, de outros cachorros e, por incrível que pareça, de tomar banho. Já Vênus, a pretinha, é exatamente o contrário: odeia banho, odeia outros cachorros e não suporta ficar no sol.

Vênus gosta mesmo é de pessoas e de carinho. Se você chegar aqui em casa, ela vai te receber com um banho de lambidas. Faz amizade muito fácil com qualquer pessoa. Margot, por outro lado, não. Ela provavelmente vai tentar te arrancar algum pedaço.

Essas fotos que tirei ontem refletem bem essa diferença: Margot aproveitando o sol da manhã. Mesmo uma pequena faixa de luz já é suficiente para aquecer suas patinhas. Ela já mapeou toda a trajetória do sol pelos cômodos da casa e sempre estará lá, esperando pelo calor.

A Vênus, ao contrário, passa longe do sol. E faz sentido: como sua pelagem é escura e absorve mais calor, ela sente desconforto rapidamente. Em poucos minutos já está de língua de fora, tentando expulsar o excesso de calor do corpo.

Vênus é engraçada e desajeitada. Margot impõe respeito e se comunica muito bem. São opostas e é um prazer imenso ter as duas por perto!
