The Bible teaches us that we do not just eat. We eat in wisdom and we eat responsibly. A christian should understand that we should not just eat like gluttons. We should not eat like greedy people. Eating food is not all that we are existing in this world for. There is time for everything. There is time to eat and there is time to stay out of food.
There is time for food, there is time for fasting. When we eat, we are feeding the physical body. The food that we eat only nourishes our body. We need to nourish our spirit. The spiritual man is nourished when we fast and pray. So we don't just eat food. We should also learn to keep food away food. Fasting is a good practice for the believer in Jesus.
We also should learn how to feed on the word of God. The word of God is good for our spirit and soul. As we are eating the physical food, we should also feed our souls with the Word of God. Daily reading of the Bible is very good for our spiritual growth.
