Should Christians Pay Tithes. MCGI TOPIC REVIEW

Abraham was the first to start the payment of tithes. When he did it, he not doing it under the law. It was not a commandment given to him by the Lord God. As at the time he paid his tithe, he was not under any law. He followed God all by himself. So, we should not account of tithing as an act of the law. Moses came many years after that Abraham (his father) given tithe to Melchizedek. We also see Jacob giving tithes when he came to Bethel. Jacob entered into a covenant with God when he came to Bethel. Jacob made that covenant with God so that God will protect and prosper him on his way.

The tithing which was enforced in the law came to meet the concept of tithing already in existence. In my interpretation, I used to say that God enforced this on the children because their fathers had already initiated that. So, paying tithes today is not out of place. It wasn't totally a thing of the law. I want to believe that when God initiated the levitical office and the priesthood, he asked the children of Israel to make it an ordinance of bringing tithes into the house of God so that there will be food for the Levites. If he had allowed it to be as you will, maybe most of the children of Israel would not have given, so he made it a law.

In the church today, there are several needs for money. The pastors and other workers who gave themselves solely to do the work of the gospel and church administrative duties needs to be catered for. Their children and families should be cared for. So, paying tithes to assist in such is not a problem. We are free our substances to support the work of the gospel. It's only that our giving should not be by compulsion, it should be free willed.
