Unlearning A Money Habit: From Spender To A Conscious Saver

It is never too much when it comes to learning about money and better ways to earn and spend it to avoid going broke again. It's no news how people go from super rich to being broke simply because they made the wrong moves or mistakes with the money they had available on them. It takes more than just having lot of money.

There have to be the knowledge, discipline and mindset to keep that money working or growing for you. It's sad that I didn't learn much about money aside spending it while I was growing up. So many times, I still wish I could go back to my teens age and start saving the money I was getting from my dad and others who gave me.

I was a huge spender, I say huge even though I didn't really do those big shopping people do with huge amount of money, but it was huge at the time I was spending the money now that I think about it. I remember every day before we leave for school, dad will share some amount of money with my siblings and I for our lunch at school.

Since we didn't have a mum to do most of the kitchen duties, dad used money to fill that space for us. Some days, we won't have breakfast from home, we get more money from my dad and those days at school were always different because we got to double what we usually buy and for me, I never thought to save my money.

The few times I forced myself to save was still for more spending in the nearest future. To have more in hand to spend for more items, instead of buying just one at a time. There was even one time I got a safe box to save money in it. Long story cut short, that box didn't last long in the house. I broke it to go get a roll of my best snack.

The person I've become is by far different from who I was regarding money matters. I guess I never got real lessons or teachings to use money well in those years but that changed as I grew older and responsibilities set in. The major eye opener for me to treat my money better was when I started to earn my own money to spend.

I realized quickly what it meant to spend money worked hard for, I had a few moment to feel sorry towards my dad that I spent his money without actually worrying about how he worked so hard for it. I think it's same for anyone who never really think of the work done to earn money, some just want to spend until they realize how hard it is.

It's not easy to earn money and so it only makes sense for any wise earner to be more conscious about where their money goes than just spending unnecessarily. We can't totally avoid spending unnecessarily but we can learn to prioritise saving, investment and budgeting to utilize our money well for growth and financial stability.

Saving money is good, but I'll prefer investing that money on stocks and bonds. That's financial literacy according to IKING FERRY ON FACEBOOK

Of course, it's best to invest for more growth. You have to save money to invest.
