Two Dramas, Endless Heart: Discovering Korea's Universal Messages

One of the few reasons I see movies is to learn about new things, from values to having knowledge about a particular country. I believe every movie has one or two to teach a viewer and that's the mindset I use to see any especially kdrama series. People do say we see kdrama for the beautiful and handsome casts but it's more.

Regarding the prompt, I thought about many other kdrama I've seen that portray more than just another storyline, convinces viewers across the world about the Koreans stand and how beautifully they try to portray it to us. I had over five series in mind with the series Vincenzo and Itaewon Class being on the list for many reasons.

These are series I've seen people who aren't into kdrama much enjoy because they have storylines that are more relatable, less fictional and have good comedy with perfect cast. If you're yet to see any of the series mentioned in this post, it's your cue to check them out. I won't fail to say there are good Korean movies too that I've seen.

I want to say more on the Korean movies but I'll skip that to focus on the two Korean series I think portray more about the Koreans while still being relatable to other parts of the world. These two have storylines that goes beyond fantasy and just drama as we see in many of their other series.

The Universal Hook of "Crash Landing On You" about Korean History and Hospitality.

I saw this series a bit later than when many saw it but I could still remember how hyped it still was at the time I saw it. So many loved it, not for the regular reasons and it was obvious. I've seen a few Korean series that portray their differences as North and South, this series has to be one of the most popular, coolest and romantic ever was.

In a country with a demarcation between two sides, a strict law against crossing over and two opposite falling in love in the most unexpected way, viewers were made to go on a roller coaster but fun adventure to see how it ends with the main cast in this amazing series. It was a series that had me hooked from the start to finish which was weird and cool considering how seriously the issue between the north and south are taken.

I learnt from the series, a part of the history in Korean (North and South) and it was like I witnessed how hospitable the Koreans can be. Even though I know it's all scripted, it was nice to see and I'm sure this is one of the series that made many viewers believe the Koreans are great in this aspect of life like other countries are.

How "When Life Gives You Tangerine" Reveals Korean Family Resilience and Values.

I still don't get how they were able to pull this one off, the storyline is great and the message? Super relatable. One thing my people here in Nigeria are known for is, our resilience even in the hardest of times. I bet most Nigerians who watched this series found it relatable because the number one message sent is "Resilience" and it was so clear.

From long years ago, a family started from two little kids who grew in a poor home but fell in love and continued to better their lives as they grew their own family until they are met with what many will call "cycle of life". Having kids who treats you like you treated your parents, good or bad, is one of the realest thing to see happen in a movie. This series portrayed that well to viewers.

One of the sweetest part of this series that stole the heart of many is the resilient love the male lead had for the female lead. Crossing an ocean to his love, staying patient when he should be worried for his love, being the bigger person for his love... All that raised the standard of love actions in all the Korean series we've been seeing. There were countless values to learn too.
