The Unexpected Friendships That Shaped My School Years

At the moment of writing this, I just wished one of my friends from the university days a happy birthday. It's her birthday today and I'm here writing about how we started as friends. Maybe I'll share this post with her to read so we could reminisce about the past together. Friends are what I don't make easily but I got this two easily.

It's amazing how we meet and make friends, I remember having a friend from a store we bought items from just a few steps away from where I live. We were friends for a while before he moved to another area, but our encounter was one that I won't forget for a long while. The most random friends I got became my lasting friends.

I've had a few friends from my secondary school days but none of them I'm in contact with so it's still a surprise and a blessing that I'm in good contact with the ones I made from my university days. It's been over five years already and we still joke about many things and check on each other, we even had a conference call like a month ago.

Nancy and Favor are the closest friends I've had in my life generally that are not family or church members as I do tend to have a lot of friends from the church I belong to. We started unexpectedly but became so close and lived like family even though in different houses during our time in the school, we did so much together too.

I met Favor first at a party we attended to celebrate the end of a predegree program we did together but at different locations. We didn't talked much with each other until we found ourselves in same university, same course, same direct entry and we identified effortlessly so we could navigate the school issues together. Favor and I connected so well in many ways even from the state and place (warri) we came from.

I got to know Nancy in a random way but one I'd say was a perfect moment. We had just finished classes for the day and we met at the back of our faculty building while we were all trying to connect with our fellow direct entry colleagues. Nancy was one of them and happened to be going in the same direction to where I live, we became close going to school and home together. I remember our first walk and the many gists we shared like it wasn't our first.

The three of us started out like it wasn't going to last this long but somehow, here we are still feeling grateful for all we did for each other. For every lectures, we tried to attend together or cover for anyone who couldn't meet up. For studies, we scheduled nights to meet at one of our places to study. For exams, we sat together.

We had a lot of fun times together, taking walks, travelling, outings and a lot of gist time. There was no boring time when we were together, I even introduced them to Hive but after a while, they didn't take it seriously. But at a point, we did Hive together and it was extra fun to discuss our Hive moments. Today, we're still good friends.
